Musk's billions and ego won.
This is spooky stuff.

(90 posts)Y'all are acting like Twitter wasn't incredibly broken before this. Uncountable bots spreadnig dangerour disinformation, little real or consistant moderation, and algorithems that lead people into more and more conspiracy/facist/far-right shit.
There is literally no way that Musk can make it worse than it has been over the past 5 years.
If he's able to accomplish some of the goals he's set then there's a chance it's a better platform. If you make every user authenticate, and use a real ID instead of a rando-username, and get rid of bots, then things would be far better. Most people would be far less willin to do the terrible things that already happen on twitter if their real name was showing up on the screen beside it.

(90 posts)The guy that founded Twitter is literally friends with people who planned 1/6. They ley Qanon grow and spread on the platform for years, even after other sites moved against it. It's still one of the major sites for red-pilling. He literally can't make it worse.

(32,717 posts)Etc. He can bury anti-trump hashtags. He can make it so that only rightwing tweets trend. Or magnify pro-crypto tweets to create chaos in the markets (like he did with dogecoin). It can get a lot worse, unfortunately.

(90 posts)Claimed he's going to make the code open source.....so those algorithms will be there for people to see.
Besides that, those things are already true. Trending items can be manipulated now if you have enough bots to do it.
There isn't anything that anyone has said so far Musk is going to do that Twitter hasn't already done all on its own.

(90 posts)Was consulting with Ali Alexander, far right conspiracist who helped plan 1/6, on how Twitter should handle moderating its platform. Its been a haven for neonazism, antivax propoganda, political misunformation, russian disinformation, and general far right extreme ideologies to this day.
Twitter wasn't some beacon of light and there is very little musk could do to make it any worse.

(9,126 posts)Musk is taking it private!!!
Joenobody
(90 posts)Are you upset it's controlled by one rich asshole instead of a board of rich assholes? Twitter was private in 2012 and already had 100 million unique visitors per day. Who cares? Unless you really want to hear their financial disclosure call it isnt very important.
