George Takei @GeorgeTakeiIm not going anywhere. Should this place become more toxic, I pledge to strive even harder to lift up reason, science, compassion and the rule of law. The struggle against fascism, misinformation, and hate requires tough fighters. I hope you stay in the fight, right beside me.

(4,619 posts)There are worse things I could say about Republicans, but their sickness in all their separate ways could best be described as a disease.
If it looks like a duck, and it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, and it swims like a duck.
It's a duck.

Those would be the same people that would support LA Clippers racist owner years ago. They would make every excuse. When they support racist un-American pos Musk then they're contributing to what any pos like that does. You lose any legit stance on anything when you're help funding the things you're against. This is something pretty clear.
They're showing their true colors. Or they have addiction to that shit and they could careless.
It's time to quit Twitter. You push to have other choices.

(1,000 posts)I boycott Chick fila a because my dollars do not support bigot bird, I am not gay, but the same God that made them (whatever your belief system might be, I won't argue that) made me.
I boycotted Papa Johns, it might have cost him, what? Fifteen cents more on his Pizza to give health care to his employees? Even with healthcare, the cancer that took my husband's life cleaned us out of what we had both worked thirty years for first. But we still had a fighting chance because he had healthcare, we just lost the most important thing, him.
I still boycott Wal Mart because they were the first to start this work people full time, call it part time, pay no benefits, pay their employees as little as they can get by with so they have to rely on government assistance even working and hour or two less than "full time." Wal Mart became insanely wealthy enough on this system that they were able to buy the government that gave them trickle down. So now they double dip on both ends-they don't pay their fair share of taxes and those of us who do pay our fair share help compensate their employees so they can eat, receive medical care, and have a roof over their heads. I don't mind helping their employees, I mind supporting their grift. Oh, and shove that "people just don't want to work" crap, you don't deserve their loyalty but they give it anyway.
I left FB because of the toxic environment, Cambridge Analytica, and the Russian bots they knew and did nothing about, just like they knew the mental health risk of teenagers on line, but chose profit. Elon Musk is a misogynist, racist, fascist. The one thing he is not is a "free speech absolutist." He does not care about my free speech, he cares about his. And in his own Bond Villain cartoonish way, millions of people will see things his way, or else. I will not help him succeed in any of his endeavors. Fuck that guy.

(8,517 posts)I boycott and avoid companies who support terrible things. I cannot imagine any way I can stay on if the place turns vile.
I am currently debating if I want to shut down my account now, for a chance at financial impact - message sending, or if I will wait for the purchase to be finalized/approved. I doubt the board and CEO will care either way. Sounds like they believe it's a done deal.

(1,000 posts)Good on you. We need fighters on all fronts and if you can hold your nose and fight on there, I'm good.
I start my day at DU, then Daily Kos, then I drifted over to Twitter-that was my first cup of coffee of the day. This is not "cancel culture" as they love to call it, to me this is consequence culture. How many of us took the fight to Parler, GETTRE, Gab, or Truth Social? It is no fun for the trolls to bully, harass, threaten, and try to intimidate in an echo chamber. They need to "own the libs."
In Musk's world "absolutist free speech" is having a "plantation" in his California plant, misogynist jokes, free use of the "n" word. I will not be a part of anything that involves that fascist lout. He will take something someone else built and use their vision to deprive millions of people (like Jeff Tiedrich said! Love that guy!) of their voice to elevate his and his ilk.

(9,984 posts)almost entirely. I did write two diaries that were tolerably well received, one about my son's suicide when it was still raw, and one about the death of Daisy Coleman. But I found out that saying anything whatever against Israel will get you roundly trashed and even suspended (and it wasn't even nasty, it was just what I've said here about Israel losing its soul) so in the words of a Chinese friend, I have bye-byed that place.

Fortunate or those who can choose to fight by their temperament, not by being stuck in one position or the other. If you have that choice, by all means don't listen to those who think your choice is wrong, but make the right choice and make the most of it.

(2,771 posts)Joy Reid made an interesting point today. She noted that the social networking sites created by and for right wingers have failed. She suggested the right doesnt want to communicate with others like themselves. They want us to be their audience. I dont want to be their audience.
Were buying an electric car this year. Its not a Tesla. I want to help the environment, not Musks bottom line. Same thought here. His views are very different from mine. For instance, the man is no friend of unions. Thats no surprise. He also doesnt wish to pay taxes. Thats why he left California for Texas. Texas can have him.
I enjoyed reading many threads written by informed people. I enjoyed the witty takes. I blocked people who annoyed me. I thought of Twitter as an entertainment. No one changed my outlook; I didnt attempt to change anyone elses. It is not a platform conducive to reasoned persuasion.
Im not unhappy to be out.
