Covid is not over.

We celebrated our nephew's wedding on the 16th of this month
Most of the wedding party including the bride got covid.
My beautiful daughter, my 2 grandsons, my sister-in-law (fully vaccinated), nephew and who knows who else are now sick.

We had been SO careful and then we just got caught up in the moment and the opportunity of seeing friends and relatives from around the world.

Don't let your guard down DU - We did and we got slammed.

When these people talk about Covid, count how many times they say "I" in their discussion. You never hear the word "you".

They view Covid in terms of themselves only.

Edit: Not talking about the terribly sad situation as described by the OP. I'm talking about, you know...

Covid zero is not happening.

Not next week.

Next month.

Or next decade.

It is here forever.

Get vaccinated and boosted and live with it.

Take whatever precautions you deem necessary.

But Covid is never going away.

for nephew's wedding. Plane and airport not so bad but the beautiful indoor reception was unlike anything I've done in two years and I'm amazed I didn't inhale large quantities of virus...lots of sweaty dancing and singing from recent college grads. No one masked (conservative state, plus eating/drinking takes priority), no distancing, lots of hugs and convos.

It was important enough to take the risk, but I wouldn't make it a habit. Risk is cumulative.

Hope y'all are on the road to recovery.

It’s not over, but it’s exceedingly unlikely to be serious for those who get it that are boosted. And boosted people are still 4-5 times less likely to get it in the first place.

effective 2-3 months. So are we looking at quarterly boosters? And hopefully, very hopefully a strain won't emerge that is totally resistant or worse, unresponsive to the vaccine. In that case, we're fucked.

Okay, so I'm older (73) and retired, don't go out much. I'm also okay with not going very many places. I am connected to the world of science fiction, attend various cons, most of which were cancelled for two years. Last October, Mile Hi Con happened in Denver. Hooray! We were all masked. In January this year COSine happened in Colorado Springs. We had to show proof of vaccination there, which was wonderful.

Earlier this month the Jack Williamson Lectureship happened in Portales, NM, a truly wonderful thing that is almost totally unknown.

What I love about the science fiction world is that it is very science oriented. Hence masks and vaccinations.

One in Massachusetts has a daughter in an induced coma with it and her infant daughter is hospitalized. Another in NY has parents who’re sick.

If I know two I personally extrapolate and it’s obvious that Covid isn’t gone or leaving.

Most people at Walgreens where I went for the booster had no mask on, including the staff who gave me the injection.

My family always wears a mask when we are out.

Hope your family recovers completely with no long covid. Best wishes to all.

And given that about 30% of the population has been completely ignoring mitigation techniques (or even that the virus is even an issue) the only safe gathering is one that has just 2 people.

(Actually, I'm sure there's more to the math than that, but 30% non-compliance is far too high to put an end to this thing.)

37. People aren't going to live like that
Tue Apr 26, 2022, 08:59 AM

People are done avoiding family get togethers. The way I see it, get vaccinated, get boosted, and live your life. The unvaccinated are 97 times more likely to die of Covid than the boosted, it's really their problem right now.

I still think the media has downplayed how great the vaccines are, they seem to want to prevent people from knowing the real benefits of the vaccines because they're looking to sell fear. If a wedding party was all boosted, this would be like holding a wedding during a mild flu season. The virus is just not a great danger to those who've gotten boosted.
