The Anti-Vax Trucker Convoy Made One Crucial Error in Messing With Oakland

Everything seemed to be going just peachy for the anti-vaccine trucker convoy’s triumphant return to California but then they went to Oakland.

The convoy participants made a crucial error when they decided to protest a local politician (who proposed an abortion bill they oppose) and rolled into the a quiet Oakland neighborhood of Rockridge last Friday. As chronicled in a YouTube video by Rise Images, the truckers were flipped off by Oaklanders, sworn at, had their progress stalled by a man just simply standing in the road and, of course, got their big rigs egged.

The counterprotesters were well-resourced, with supply lines amply filled with eggs ready to be hurled against chrome and the unvaccinated.

One trucker, angry at the yolk slowly oozing down the side of his truck, got into a face-to-face with a mask-wearing resident who was happily tossing eggs.

“Hey you got a problem?,” the enraged trucker asked the resident before adamantly telling him to “Get the fuck out of here.”

“No,” the resident replied coolly.

As the trucker walked away in a huff, the masked man calmly continued to pelt his truck with eggs. Attempting to enact revenge for the attack, the trucker pulled out his most fearsome weapon, and began to blare his horn. In response the counter-protestors pulled out a full flat of eggs and, well, I’m sure you can put two and two together.

Go into a liberal area and push people around. The proud boys and patriot prayer thought the pickings would be easy in Portland with all its crunchy granola liberal soy boys. Not so much, and while they threaten to come back in bigger numbers, they've generally moved on. I'd put the over/under on gatherings this summer in Portland at 1, probably at Delta Park, which affords a quick getaway over the Columbia to Vancouver.

I sincerely hope that those 'investors' lost plenty over this. I suppose they won't care, considering that those who were quietly bankrolling this could lose that level of money without much worry. Being as greedy as they are, I am sure there was complaining but I doubt there was much concern. However, you are very correct. This was organized and funded, it was not something grassroots.

The Oakland city government has identified 50 “violent groups” operating within the city. The hard right refers to them as criminal street gangs. The truckers probably aren’t armed - FMCSA gets a bit upset when a trucker is driving around with a gun. Violent groups don’t have that issue. The truckers are quite lucky that some of these groups didn’t do a little civic improvement by blocking in their trucks and removing the wheels.

S'probably why they went there, thinking they'd annoy all the libs and would be safe because it's a very upscale neighborhood in Oakland.

I suppose they physically were safe, but their property wasn't quite so much

In the chat groups for participants and supporters of the convoy, the now-infamous Oakland incident was a sore spot for some supporters. “I am so sick of these leftists I wish there is a way to ship them off to China,” wrote one. “They can try that egg-throwing there....” Another called them a “child abusing pedos.”

I guess these morons haven't seen how China is dealing with covid, with mandatory testing a total lockdown that includes fencing around peoples' homes to prevent them from leaving.

It was a mistake to chose that for their big showcase West Coast parade.

Of anywhere in the country, including Portland, OR. Maybe Seattle. There are so many older (ie my age or more) experienced protesters from prior decades who were out teaching the young people. It was beautiful to see.

Also, when did the convoy go from being anti-covid-mandates to protesting abortion protective politicians' homes?

Given the circumstances, the free-dumb riders will not likely be able to mitigate egg damage to their shiny phallic symbols.

You have to clean the egg off the paint as soon as possible. Left to sit (especially in hot weather or in direct sunlight) the egg will etch its way through the clear coat and into the base colored coat of the paint finish. At that point, the area will have to be repainted to restore the original condition. For this reason, timing is of the essence!

Clean the area without causing any more paint damage. DON'T use paper towels, old rags or any other cloth/applicator that will scratch the surface. Also, don't use glass cleaner which is designed for cleaning glass.

With your car in the shade so that the paint finish is cool to the touch, wash your car with car wash shampoo, or, if your car is already clean, wash the area to be treated with a quick detailer to remove any loose dust or debris in the affected area so you won't cause additional damage.

OMG, I love my home city. Rockridge is a rather wealthy area. This looks like College Avenue, a fairly narrow street with heavy traffic and trendy restaurants and shops.

These folks were obviously prepared. So many flats of eggs.

I think it has to do with the idea that they've always kind of made vague noises about seceding from Oakland. I remember, four or so years back, they wanted to get their own police force separate from the Oakland PD, because they didn't trust Oakland to provide the kind of public safety they felt their money entitled them to.

But, I mean, it's still Oakland and along College Ave to boot . . .

It's been a minute, but so many good restaurants there. Pre-Covid, my office had a holiday dinner at Pucquio's. Peruvian. So good. So pricey.

The folks there threatened to form their own town, Tuscany, lol. The idea was if there could be a Piedmont, there could be a Tuscany. It never happened. I knew one person who lived there and told people she lived in Berkeley because she wouldn't admit she lived in Oakland.

I moved from there in 1997 to around 109th and MacArthur, definitely not a wealthy area. Now, I live in one of the new apartment buildings downtown, close to Chinatown. We're no longer considered the armpit of the Bay Area. Most people can't afford to live here any longer. But we still have the same spirit.

Great music, great food, great people.

I have a friend who lives literally a block away from the Berkeley/Oakland border. He will not, under any circumstances, tell people he lives in Oakland. It is always Berkeley. He's Chinese-Canadian, so one day I said, "You're like the Simu Liu of Oakland!" It riles him up (in a fun, teasing way). Now, whenever he says he's from Berkeley when I'm around, I just start making Simu references.

I have a buddy up on Moraga who I house sat for once when I worked in Berkeley. Fenton's, so many boba shops with really good spicy chicken bites, all the restaurants along College. I'm gay, so White Horse is kind of over there (even if it always struck me as a bit methy).

But yeah, it's changed. I have friends who live in those new apartments that went up near Koreatown. A lot of those little stores that were there ten years ago have vanished. They've also somewhat tried improving the nightlife, but clubs keep coming and going, I can't keep track anymore. When Luka's closed, I felt that. I used to get oysters there with a buddy after we'd walk around the lake and catch up. I think Port is still there, but that's all pre-Covid. They had/have pretty good trivia nights.
