A top GOP candidate for governor campaigned at an event promoting QAnon and conspiracy theories about 9/11
https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/doug-mastriano-teddy-daniels-qanon-conference-gop-candidates-20220427.html
Last week in Gettysburg, a far-right Christian conference called Patriots Arise for God and Country drew State Sen. Doug Mastriano, a GOP front-runner for Pennsylvania governor; Teddy Daniels, a candidate for lieutenant governor; Maryland gubernatorial candidate Dan Cox; Liz Harrington, a spokesperson for former President Donald Trump; and former Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis.
About 25 minutes into the two-day conference, organizers played a video claiming the world is experiencing a great awakening that will expose ritual child sacrifice and a global satanic blood cult.
Followers of QAnon believe a global cabal of Democrats and elites are trafficking children for sex and engaged in other demonic activity but that all of this will soon be exposed. Images associated with the conspiracy theory were on display during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack.
The video showed Friday featured a kind of greatest hits of conspiracy theories that have circulated for decades. It showed images of the Twin Towers collapsing on 9/11 with the label false flags. It claimed John F. Kennedy was assassinated because he knew too much and posed a high risk of cabal exposure, that vaccines amount to genocide therapy, and that Hitler faked his death (bolding mine). It offered other conspiracy theories about the atomic bomb, the Spanish flu, 5G, the 2008 financial crisis and, of course, the 2020 election.
The Republicans just keep getting more and more scary. We have to keep the House and Senate in 2022 and the Presidency in 2024.

(25,576 posts)There is in fact ample evidence that Hitler did fake his own death. When I was in dental school we had a seminar on Hitlers dental records which appear to have been changed based upon some testimony and observations and it is quite possible that the body was substituted as were the dental records which other than fingerprints was the only manner of identifying a mutilated or heavily decomposed corpse. I myself have participated in a few forensic adventures involving the dentition, and it is extremely fascinating but incredibly arcane.
And those of you who know me here know that I dont generally propose speculative nonsense. This whole story of Hitler and his dental records was very significantly studied by many and there seem to have been quite a few winks and nods at the end of the war.

(82,849 posts)Okay, I'll bite: When? Name the date, you dumbass motherfuckers (not referring to thread starter steve2470). What's going to be exposed, and when? None of this "it was revealed but the derp state covered it up" bullshit. As long as you're being irretrievably stone-brained stupid, I should have a chance to make book on it. When is any of this going to happen? May 1? September 1? The Twelfth of Never? You're saying "soon," so let's hear it. Let's make it interesting. A c-note? A grand? How much you feel like losing?

(2,541 posts)We are one election away from becoming a clone of FL/TX/ID/MO.
Gov. Tom Wolf has kept the nutters at bay for the last eight years. If, dog forbid, Mastriano is elected (and I see a lot of signs for him), we'll be circling the drain soon after.

(129,386 posts)who each have their own loon fan club, that he's not necessarily a shoo-in.
Jake Corman is a well-known "establishment" Republican who went loon (in fact, he's like a Kevin McCarthy in that respect - in a "leadership position" who made a decision to publicly talk the bullshit but privately knowing it's bullshit) and IMHO might have more of the support of whoever remains in their party who plans to vote, although his jumping on the "bit lie" CT bandwagon demanding an "audit", would be a big demerit when it comes to Independents. There seems to be a slow-burning (and finally rising above the din) group of anti-45 GOPers and that is a group who could potentially sit out the "top of the state ticket" races and who will instead focus on the Congressional, state legislative, County, and municipal seats.
I.e., the most densely-populated part of the state is here in the east and the Republicans here are not buying what Mastriano is selling (and neither are others around the state). I think that the dynamic of what has been going on with McCarthy and Gaetz - now "publicly exposed" is very much what is happening in a number of purple states. The grumbling about the hijacking of their party.
I just found this opinion piece and that seems to sum up that perspective and disgust with Mastriano - https://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2022/04/im-a-republican-doug-mastriano-is-my-senator-heres-what-pennsylvanians-should-know.html
The one thing that needs to also be noted is that in the general election, it's not just Democrats and Republicans voting but a whole swath of Independents (who are now almost 1/3rd of the voters), who will be making a difference.
And in the case of the governor's race, I think Democrats probably have one of the strongest candidates for that position in who knows how long (and especially in this era of multiple challenges and chaos) - Josh Shapiro (who also has no primary opposition on the Democratic side). And if someone like Mastriano did get the nod, IMHO that would propel Shapiro even more.
I *finally* got my mail-in ballot Tuesday and will be mailing it this week.

(2,541 posts)This leads to a lot of exposure to Mastriano signs; however, I drove through a bit of "civilized" PA today and saw a large number of Shapiro signs (and not one Mastriano sign).
It caused me to remember there are a lot more voters in Allegheny than in Butler County.
I think Shapiro has done a great job as Attorney General and will be an excellent Governor - and considering what I heard about last night's MAGA debate, my worst fears would come true of one of these fascists were elected.
BumRushDaShow
(129,386 posts)and that was for Fetterman. Haven't seen any others. I expect that will change when we get closer to the general election...
And yup, Allegheny County has over 1 million more than Butler County and Philadelphia (city/County) has 400,000 more than Allegheny.
And since AGs tend to do "prosecuting", Shapiro takes away a GOP talking point about Democrats being "soft on crime" and other nonsense.

(129,386 posts)and I expect it would be a whole other world.
Before I retired, at some point early in my federal career, I did travel over to that side of state frequently since we had a satellite office there just outside of Pittsburgh. Since I always thought it was a scenic area, I always mentioned that to my colleagues who worked there (plus one of my bosses was from there), and they would pause, look around, and then say "Yeah I guess it is".
But I think that the toxicity that really got going in the early 1990s thanks to Newt Gingrich (a Harrisburg native) and his lunatic grand plans, along with the pounding of misinformation from Faux Snooze... all of that has just caused a rot that makes this state almost unrecognizable.

(4,522 posts)and the probability that Hitler DID fake his death is high. I believe in UFOs too. Everyone has their line in the sand. But if
I ever drift over into the false flag, chemtrail or alien overlord territory, I hope my family and friends take immediate action.

(38,325 posts)Heck, my father-in-law was used as a guinea pig in atomic bomb testing. Our fearless leaders wanted to know how soldiers would respond to a nearby atomic bomb blast so they put some soldiers in trenches, exploded an atomic bomb, and had them marching about in the desert as the mushroom cloud was rising up above them. My father-in-law says some of the guys were so enthusiastic to prove their mettle they leapt up into action immediately after the unimaginably bright flash of light and were knocked on their butts by the shock wave.
These atomic veterans were all sworn to secrecy and they weren't released from that oath until the Clinton Administration.
Here's another experiment:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Run
I've got photos I took of something that sure looked like a chemtrail experiment but I'm fairly certain it wasn't anything nefarious; no mind control or anything like that. Maybe it was a military experiment to ascertain if global warming could be mitigated by the dispersal of some chemical agent in the upper atmosphere.
I don't "believe" in UFOs. Any intelligence that can cross the distances between the stars already permeate everything. They don't need spacecraft. The few that are focused here on earth don't seem to be interested in humans. They are studying beetles.
It's said that god has an inordinate fondness for beetles.
