(12,904 posts)About an hour before that tornado hit. It was a beautiful spring day. My husband had played a golf thing with his uncle in Wichita. We didnt find out what happened until we got back to Kansas City.
Edit to add: I think the 1991 storm was an F4 or an F5.

(34,412 posts)is the right thing to do. It's actually one of the worst things to do -- it acts like a wind tunnel. You're much safer in a ditch. They were very lucky that the tornado just sideswiped them.

Remember the 1991 tornado real well, lived in Wichita then.
