Using social media to give medical comments, opinions and yes, some advice. Every site, including DU, has it. He is not demanding anyone follow what he says which is a step up from many.

Why? Because it stays in business despite having ZERO customers!

I was diagnosed ADHD last year, pretty late in life, and it made my anxiety and anger plummet. It can make you aggressive if you do not need it and abuse it as an actual amphetamine.

probably do so recreationally.....

Different beast.

His ketamine comments are bullshit. We don't need to put children on ketamine. (And kids make up a huge proportion of people on ADHD meds.)

Any meds, even OTC, used when you don't need them mess with you. Especially speed!

And, I agree with ketamine. I know many docs have none amphetamine ADHD meds they often Rx now.

a couple of people (including an 18 year old) who have done Ketamine treatment, with varying success. It frightens me for a number of reasons. But it seems to treat PTSD very well, and other trauma based behavioral issues.

But that is different than ADHD, which is what Adderall is prescribed for.

be done in a controlled, clinical environment after the patient has been thoroughly screened.

Mass General (and other major clinics/hospitals) has a fledgling Ketamine Treatment program that I have been looking into. So far I think they are only doing clinical trials, but there has been a lot of success with patients who are victims of trauma or treatment resistant depression.

Still, I really don't think Elon Musk is in any position to be giving medical/psychiatric advice to anybody, especially since he seems to be dangerously influential amongst a certain segment of society.

was lucky enough to get her 19 year old daughter in a ketamine trial. (She has experienced some severe trauma.) It was a helpful protocol for her, but she also had a lot of therapy. (I think they did either CBT or DBT in the program.)

I think I was comparing them because Elon did. But I think that they would be used for two completely different patient pools. Someone who is a candidate for Ketamine wouldn't usually be a candidate for ADHD meds and vice versa.

It's just an odd comparison from Elon, which is why I think he mostly knows people who take them recreationally (bc they have access to doctors who will treat/prescribe them.)

psychedelics, just as you wouldn't treat PTSD with Adderall. i totally agree with you and also agree that Elon should probably not comment on these things because he clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

it kind of reminds me of people who think any kind of flu/cold type of illness can automatically be treated w/ antibiotics. I was very sick with some kind of flu/cold and went to the doctor twice (determined it was not Covid, pneumonia or bronchitis) and i had friends telling me that I should have demanded antibiotics. That kind of thing drives me crazy, and these are well-educated, bright people. There is just so much medical information floating around out there. I can see why medical professionals get frustrated.

the antibiotics thing is so ingrained into people's minds now, too. I think they feel like it's a harmless "just in case!" thing.
