Your poll shows that we either overestimate Putin's support in the Republican Party or we're possibly just being snarky, imo. Some of the people in the poll cited in the above link might have just been being snarky too. Who knows?

The fact that Putin isn't really popular among Republicans and that the Republican clown maestro is a long-time Putin buddy suggests to me that Putin could be carefully used as a legitimate wedge issue. By "careful," I don't mean accusing all Republicans of being pro-Putin when in polite company. I mean asking the big group of Republicans if they're starting to get tired of having to explain their clown contingent.
