Just 18% of parents willing to vaccinate their kids under 5 right away, poll shows

With children under 5 now the only group not yet eligible for vaccination against COVID-19, many parents have been vocal about their frustration pertaining to the delayed authorization process and rollout.

However, a new KFF COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor survey has found that less than a fifth of parents with children under the age 5 -- 18% -- reported that they are eager to get their child vaccinated right away

More than a third of parents -- 38% -- said that they plan to wait in order to see how the vaccine works for others, while 27% of parents reported that they will "definitely not" get their child vaccinated, and another 11% stating that they will only do so if required.

More than half of parents said they feel that they do not have enough information about the vaccines' safety and efficacy for children under 5 years of age.

5-11 year olds have been getting vaccinated for several months now with few side effects.

Our kid turns 5 in June and we plan to get him vax'd right away.

Two of my law partners have gotten COVID from their kids. Luckily everyone recovered with no serious issues

4. Actually there is no vaccine available for kids under 5.

Your colleagues must have kids at least 5 years old.

I wish there was a vaccine for under 5. If so we would have gotten our 4 year old vax'd tout suite. We contacted our health care provider and they said there are no exceptions.. our kid must be 5 years old to get the vax.

But I got the fourth booster before it was supposed to be available too (not the same pharmacist as brother).

8. Our kid is almost 5 and I think we would go for it if we could find someone to give him the vax.

We are traveling internationally soon and I think the risk of not being vax'd is greater that the risk of getting the vax.

I wonder if people are just, ah, exaggerating on a message board for affect/signalling.

Because illegally injecting children with things is not a good look for anyone. I glanced over and told my partner who's a pharmacist what I just read. His response - and I quote - "The fuck?!"

I have colleagues who have 4 year olds who are also willing to get their kid vaxd if it was allowed. I think the 5 year old cutoff is a bit arbitrary. Seems to me it should be based more on a child's size and weight.

Physical and neurological. Children change at a much greater clip than older humans, so you have to be extra extra sure you're not introducing something that won't bite them in the ass down the road. For example, myocarditis - while still a rare side effect of the vaccine - seems to appear more often in adolescent males than other groups.

When it comes to very young children, it's just caution caution caution.

Much like they do with other children's drugs. I often see on OTC child drug labels.. dont give to child under 6 unless directed by your doctor. But I suppose COVID vax's are so new that doctors would tend to be more cautious and follow the recommendations strictly.

Have a good evening.

I really hope this is a "Cool story, bro" kind of thing, because you've just admitted to knowledge of your law partners participating in breaking the law on a public message board.

That was a choice.

There will be a statement about efficacy, and they won't release it until it's safe.

I guess I just have this naïve trust in vaccines since I've gotten every one there is to get and I'm fine.

vaccinated the day it was available in NYC. Don't regret it for a second.

Read the literature. Talk to your kids pediatrician.
