(3,433 posts)Including the the catholics on the court. The hypocrisy is obvious and they know it but getting republicans to acknowledge their inherent duplicity and cherry picked religious belief system is impossible
They are of course supported by corrupt church officials as well. I recall that bullshit conference last summer where the bishops decided to vote on whether Catholic politicians who support ideology that is in opposition to church teaching should be denied communion. There were numerous protests within the church from both liberal AND conservatives because the ban was effectively weaponizing the sacraments. The Vatican told them to knock it off which isn't surprising given that Catholic leadership in America overwhelmingly hates Pope Francis.
Isn't it funny how these "holy men" never seem to hold Republican Catholics accountable for beliefs and actions which are in opposition to dogma? How many cases have Roberts, Alito, and Thomas heard not mention Scalia during his time. William Barr ordered the resumption of death penalty executions after nearly 20 years of lapse. This was the same man who was honored by Notre Dame in September of 2020 for his Catholic faith. During the speech he railed about attacks on religious liberty in America, the decline of morality and of course, the importance of his Catholic faith to his life.
Now to be fair, lay catholics on both sides criticized the event because it was 2 months before the election. Some also pointed out the hypocrisy or honoring a man who has been a noted and active lobbyist for the death penalty. His defense of a truly vile and obvious unchristian man in Trump was also noted. Yet note i wrote lay Catholic.
Where was the conference of Bishops when Barr ordered the prison system to resume capital punishment? Where were the cries of outrage when the Supreme Court denied an objection from a Muslim man who objected to being offered having a Christian minister present for his execution instead ensuring an Imam was available to provide spiritual comfort?where were they when the right wing justices allowed a stay for the exact same circumstances when the inmate was Buddhist, aka, not black? Racism is also deeply egregious in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Where were the orders for banning eucharist to Scalis, Thomas etc?
Yet Biden campaigns in South Carolina before the 2020 election and a priest denies Biden ability receive the sacrament.
It's been said a million times. Republicans are unashamedly hypocritical and have no honor. I am done with the lot of them.
