...when every neighborhood had somebody who "girls in trouble" could go to to get it fixed. Without anesthesia, sometimes being held down on a palette or a kitchen table while some person who wasn't qualified to scale a fish scraped and scarred their insides.

The separation of church and state.

There is no scientific evidence that to force women to give birth is a good thing for a nation. All this silly anti-abortion crap, is all based on religion.

I don't ever recall a time when religion wasn't sticking it's nose into politics.

But you're right, religion never did back off. It was an ideal that was never achieved.

Religion is constantly getting involved in our sex and reproductive lives. What is it about our sex lives that religion thinks it should control? Bunch of perverts if you ask me.

This BS about protecting a fetus that's a part of a human body is just so insane. Should we start protecting livers and kidneys the same way? What about all those intestinal worms we should protect? And all that sperm that's almost arbitrarily released whereever men go? Shouldn't we have little protective societies for them too? Religion is insane.

her tubes so she would not get pregnant. He thought she would change her mind and so he only tied one tube without telling her or asking permission. Next thing she knew, she was pregnant. I saw her just once and she was suing the doctor for damages. Hope she got them.

I do too.

I had my tubes tied in the early 80s, I wasn't married but had a child at the time. The doctor put clips on my tubes just in case I ever wanted to reverse that decision.

lucky to have a doctor who used to work at PP. She understood my (several) health issues and agreed I should have a tubal ligation. That was the early nineties. I was married and no children. My husband left it up to me and said it was my decision to make.

have her tubes tied, whatever, unless her age times the number of children she already had was greater than 120.

And wow, is that ridiculous or what?

If I understand this correctly that means:
-A 20 year old woman would have to have at least 6 kids to qualify (6×20)
-A 30 year old woman: at least 5 kids (4×30)
-A 40 year old woman: at least 3 kids (3×40)

A woman who had only one kid would have to be 120 (1×120) to meet this requirement. What womplete and utter lunacy!

coming between a woman and her doctors

THe problem is of course the 10 Commandments. Thou shalt not kill.

BUT the U.S. is one of the most lethal societies on earth. We kill people because they stand up too quick when the police breakdown their door.

We kill people who turn their backs and run a way from the police.

We kill prisoners by lethal injection, electrocution, hanging, and firing squad.

We train our soldiers to kill AND TO BE KILLED, for really stupid causes. AND they can be EXECUTED for desertion if they run away from being forced to KILL People. As a nation we ENDORSE KILLING.

We kill people by not telling them to evacuate or be exposed to a breach of a nuclear reactor (Three Mile Island). We do that to PROTECT Energy Corporations (Hey, I am a believer in SAFE VERY WELL REGULATED nuclear power)

WE DO A HELL OF A LOT OF KILLING compared to other developed 'WESTERN' cultures.

And almost all of it is sanctioned. We never call a cop a murderer, especially if he is 'scared'. We say he didn't follow procedure.
We don't call executions murder, because well, we call them executions, and you KNOW how ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY the death penalty is to social stability.

We NEVER call a pilot dropping bombs a murderer, we never call a soldier firing a machine gun or manpad anti-aircraft weapon a murderer, we never call a sailor firing cruise missles or torpedoes a murderer.

BECAUSE WE KILL AND WE DO IT WITH PURPOSE that suits the folks in charge.

The argument that abortion is MURDER and not justified homicide, or self-defense is really a rhetorical choice, and that choice has been a tremendously effective word that triggers strong emotion.

Consider that the problem isn't abortion, but the rhetoric that describes the procedure. THAT MUST CHANGE!!!

An abortion IS NOT murder, it is self-defense for a woman sometimes to protect her health, but more often against being forced to have her future life trajectory crashed, and the life of the father burdened (think GOP politicians and their interns) by something she objects to being forced to do!

Never call it abortion; call it self-defense in the interest of self-determination for a woman's future.
