Abortion should be avoided as much as possible, the document advised candidates to say. States should have the flexibility to implement reasonable restrictions.
Republicans do not want to throw doctors and women in jail, the document continued. They certainly do not want to take away contraception. And if any party is being extreme, it instructed Republicans to argue, it is the Democrats, who will not accept even modest restrictions on abortion that most Americans support.
The approach is calculated to exploit the fact that Democrats, outraged about the ruling yet powerless to do anything about it, are planning a symbolic vote that puts their party on the record opposing almost any abortion limits. On Wednesday, Senate Democrats will try and likely fail to take up legislation that would not only codify the right to an abortion, but also nullify restrictions that have passed muster with the courts.

I am pro-life, but this isnt about political labels, the documents suggest Republican candidates say. I believe all Americans want us to welcome every child into the world with open arms. But if you disagree with me, my doors always open.
Governors like Brian Kemp of Georgia and Ron DeSantis of Florida have said relatively little on the issue since the draft opinion came out.
Even former President Donald J. Trump, who campaigned in 2016 on appointing Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe, has refrained from gloating.

(51,627 posts)and I laughed out loud when I heard it. Now their BS talking points are to down play the SCOTUS decision which is what they ran on for the last 50 years. 50 YEARS!!! Some morons will fall for it but most won't. We must keep this the focus ahead of the midterms.

They've harvested money and votes for decades off promises to restrict or overturn Roe v Wade, but they've never faced a scenario like this one where they're confronted with voter reactions

(12,329 posts)they want to avoid talking about abortion, but atlas their state's counter parts are passing regulations, rules, laws and demands that are taking away rights of women concerning her body and mental health.
That conversation is not avoidable although what they are spouting now is the same old tired bullshit - "liberals are bullies", "who's the leaker, it has to be a lefty", "victimhood", et al.
The RWer judges lied under oath, but their GAWD is ok with it. GQP's GAWD is ok with them lying, cheating and stealing. I tire of them, vote them out.

(38,328 posts)Alas, I don't see many Republican men getting pregnant. It's easy for them to avoid abortions.
If I was God I'd make sure that random Republican men got pregnant quite regularly, just to see how they dealt with that sort of miracle.
The saddest thing is these same Republicans also oppose the sort of social progress that reduces abortion rates, such as realistic sex education, easy access to birth control, and the economic and political empowerment of women.

(4,104 posts)Its good thing that this leak went down when it did. The voters will be reminded again in late June, when the shit really hits the fan and the trigger laws go into effect. How will the reasonable restrictions meme work for the Pukes then?
No way will this shit storm disappear between now and November.

Most just let them deliver the talking point and move on.
