It's 'Child Abuse,' Says CO Republican Leader of Buttigieg & Husband's Decision to Adopt Children

In a recent Facebook comment, Gabriel Martinez, who identifies himself as an assistant coordinator for candidate for CO governor Greg Lopez, wrote that U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband were committing “child abuse” by adopting children.

Martinez added that the two children should be given a “real family.”

“It’s child abuse,” wrote Martinez, who’s also the secretary of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans, commenting on a 2021 photo of Buttigieg, his husband, and two infants. “The kids will be used as a political poster children their whole lives, and always without a mother. Smh. Love the child for THEIR sakes and give them a real family.”

Studies show that kids adopted by gay parents do as well as those adopted by heterosexual parents.

400k+ kids in foster care. 20k+ a year age out never having been adopted. Average age is 8yo. I don’t see a lot of these right wing fanatics adopting all these kids. I guess it would be better to go back to church run orphanages?

Pete Buttigieg and his husband adopt a child needing parents.

Banning abortion is the tip of the iceberg.

Women in some parts of the country will be forced to bear children against their will.

If those children are given up for adoption, then the same states will forbid certain applications. Single people. People over 40 years of age. Gay marriages. Even if the mother designates a married gay couple as her choice to adopt the child she was forced to bear, that child will not be allowed to be adopted in, say, Alabama, Florida, etc. And that child will linger in foster care perhaps indefinitely or maybe be pipelined to a "good" fundamentalist Christian family. (Certainly not to atheists) Or, hey! Let's bring back orphanages and let the kids rot from neglect.

What about children being raised by a single dad? Are children being raised in a home without a mother, either due to a father having sole custody or because the mother died, also victims of child abuse? There is no mom in those homes.

Homophobia is airways ugly.

There should be no doubt that Pete and Chasten Buttigieg are great parents. How fortunate those babies are to have those two dads.
