(102,374 posts)At this level, care and caution is extensive. And thoroughbreds with their pencil-like legs are bred to run. Without racing, they will disappear and this has a downstream effect on horse-breeding in general. Something that even backyard horse owners will feel.

(1,127 posts)I didnt watch the race, but clicked on the channel and saw the aftermath. Ugh, the one dude was downright abusive trying to get the horse under control after the race. It made me sick to my stomach.

used to work bar in a podunk race horse town during college
hubby was photo finish recorder. We love watching the races
