Steve Schmidt is linking to this 2020 article in the Nation: https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mccains-kremlin-ties/
The story is about John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and certain members of his campaign staff were corrupted by Putin, Deripaska and other Russian oligarchs for the purpose of invading Ukraine without US intervention.

(326 posts) In mid-September The Nations website published a photo of McCain celebrating his seventieth birthday in Montenegro in August 2006 at a yacht party hosted by convicted Italian felon Raffaello Follieri and his movie-star girlfriend Anne Hathaway. On the same day one of the largest mega-yachts in the world, the Queen K, was moored in the same bay of Kotor. This was where the real party was. The owner of the Queen K was known as Putins oligarch: Oleg Deripaska, controlling shareholder of the Russian aluminum giant RusAl, currently listed as the ninth-richest man in the world, with a rap sheet as abundant as his wealth.

Sexual harassment allegations[edit]
In January 2021, responding to a magazine article accusing him of sexual misconduct spanning a period of years, Weaver acknowledged having sent inappropriate sexual messages to multiple men, for which he apologized.[21] According to The New York Times, Weaver offered young men professional support in exchange for sex; that report also accused him of cultivating a non-sexual online relationship with a 14-year-old boy and then engaging in "sexual banter" with him after his 18th birthday.[22] Speaking to Axios, Weaver said, "The truth is that I'm gay and that I have a wife and two kids who I love. My inability to reconcile those two truths has led to this agonizing place."[7] Following the revelations, The Lincoln Project said "John's statement speaks for itself".[1] It later issued a follow-up describing him as "a predator, a liar, and an abuser", and denouncing his "deplorable and predatory behavior".[21] In February 2021, The Lincoln Project announced plans for an external investigation to review Weaver's conduct during his tenure with the group.[23]

(9,074 posts)The Republican well dried up, so here we are.
From the man who worked hard to put Alito on the bench.
Also, I think McCain hit close to home with that Weaver stuff (which he still hasn't satisfactorily explained), so he had to go nuclear to distract from it.
That the material is useful to us is nice (if it's true. He does have massive motives here). But this is the guy who personally fought for Alito, covered up for his buddy who was trying to groom young men, and then never accounted for the tens of millions of dollars he solicited to make YouTube videos a fourteen year old could've managed for free.
I'm sorry. Letting this fox into our spaces remains a terrible idea. Why we happily send money his way is truly baffling.

(2,351 posts)at least to me. Do they have most of the republicans in their pocket?
And if it's so widespread, I wouldn't be surprised if a few Dems have had their backs scratched by them as well.
