They are claiming $9.3 Billion in profits the first quarter. Compared to 2021 where they made a measly $3.1 Billion profit. Biden better quit screwing us Americans at the gas pump. It certainly has to be all his fault, and not corporate greed.

(17,931 posts)From the majors to the small, independent frackers to OPEC. They're taking the profits, shelling out dividends and not investing much in ramping production like we've seen after prior economic crises. At $110 to $120 oil, I thought the nimble frackers would start slapping rigs on every lease they could get their hands on. But, as well all know, "prior performance is not necessarily indicative of future returns." Rig counts just aren't increasing much. Youtube channel I follow presents some interesting theories on what's currently happening in the oil industry. A bit long, but full of good information....

(3,395 posts)I understand your comment tends for sarcasm, but in reality it is the government that has to stop them from screwing us up, if the government doesn't place regulations then we are all screwed because we know corporations will only do what is good for the corporation and the high executives.
And economy to succeed must have regulations in place, regulations must be set by the government, but it doesn't seem that none have been placed to stop the greed from the oil companies.

(8,835 posts)should be broadcasting this from the roof tops, along with all the other corporations seriously jacking prices to make outrageous record profits.......in order to try and blame the inflation on Biden.
I will study the media this week to watch how effective the Dems are at broadcasting that fact...........

(129,115 posts)Serious question - which "media" do Democrats own to "broadcast" anything?
DENVERPOPS
(8,835 posts)to see what NBC, ABC, CBS and Denver Post coverage is on this, if any......(80+% of all U.S. Media is owned by Republicans)
Even MSNBC has Rachel, Lawrence, etc for a few hours because they are making them a fortune. And if there is one thing the Republican owners like better than the Repub Party is the Dems Advertising money.......(The rest of the 20 hours are at best he said/she said or slanted to the right)......
The Repubs have worked for forty plus years at covering all the bases. They are well orchestrated, well planned, well coordinated, and extremely well financed. They are one hair away from taking out Democracy and replacing it with a Corporate Fascist Tyranny.
And they are hell bent on not failing this time around.........
I worry that we may not have to wait until 2024, depending on the outcome of 2022..........
Rush Limbaugh with his right wing talk radio across the nation, and Fox News have brilliantly groomed (brainwashed) the thinking of 70+ Million of their sheep and handed them to the Republican Party........

(129,115 posts)listening to Limpballs' very first show in '88 since I listened to 770 WABC in NY during the day (reception of it was excellent here in Philly) and the slot was originally featuring Lynn Samuels, who then whined about being kicked out of "her studio" (he originally broadcast from there before eventually moving to Florida).
During the "deregulation" fervor when the GOP supporters were buying up bundles of AM radio stations, Democrats were eschuing the need for that because AM was considered "passe", not realizing that in many rural areas, that was their main "news outlet" (outside of the local newspaper) as most had no cable, satellite TV was cumbersome with large dishes required, and regular TV reception was spotty without a huge antenna. Those small radio stations would also broadcast the local high school and college games (along with many MLB games), so they had a built-in audience to listen to the syndicated RW propaganda that would eventually air on those stations after the previous local show hosts were summarily ditched. This was all before Faux Snooze came into existence.
The problem with the "free" and cable broadcast networks is that THEY control who is "invited" on their shows. "We" can't demand to be on. And when we are "invited", they will often narrow their choices to the weakest among us in order to promote the RW agenda by amplifying it with little or no "publicly broadcast" objection. We have to pay to play (buying ads) where their access if "free".
I have watched over the decades how the types and intensity of use of different "grassroots" strategies, have shifted back and forth between parties, and it's that grassroots outreach that is what will help drive our voters to the polls - assuming we fight for their access to them (including education on how to do it in those states that have begun removing voter rights by mandating draconian barriers to do so).
We also need some revamping of the state party structure because most of the laws impacting our daily lives are happening at the state level, not nationally, and if we can't get people to vote EVERY YEAR then we cede our states to the loons, and whining for the federal government to "fix it" is a difficult path that could have been avoided.

I often say, a perfect book title for the past 40+ years would be:
WHILE THE NATION SLEPT............

(129,115 posts)because I think no one thought that "society" would accept the type of lunatic behavior that we see out of the GOP politicians today. They have always been hypocrites but have now gone full crazy with the CT and the media helped to "normalize" it.
I remember listening to the pre-Limpballs/Hannity conservatives on talk radio for years (some are still on), who were consistently annoying and always good for insulting the left when they could. But they were more focused on promoting their party's actual "principles" which were well known.
But this latest crop of loons have taken those "principles" and tossed them aside. Whoever thought they would see the day that they would not only throw their gawd Ronald Raygun under the bus, but would go back and repeatedly run him over again and again, all in a quest to do "the opposite" of whatever Democrats planned to do - even if it was a policy they embraced in the past.

(129,115 posts)"The government" must first start that process at the Legislative Branch (Congress), who does information-gathering (through hearings and requests for data), then drafts, and passes new and/or amend existing laws that direct the Executive Branch (Biden Administration) what is needed to promulgate regulations.
The first piece to address the most recent gouging, began a month ago when the House Energy and Commerce Committee dragged a bunch of oil barons in to answer questions on April 6, 2022 - https://energycommerce.house.gov/committee-activity/hearings/hearing-on-gouged-at-the-gas-station-big-oil-and-americas-pain-at-the
Chair Frank Pallone's opening remarks were issued in a press release as well - https://energycommerce.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/pallone-opening-remarks-at-oversight-hearing-with-oil-company-executives-on
I watched this hearing from start to finish and even posted the link in an OP in Video & Multimedia - https://www.democraticunderground.com/1017727081
There was a little bit of interest on DU, but otherwise it was apparently not considered to be important.

I was on a jury for this post few minutes ago. Somebody alerted on it, chosing "Don't bash Democratic public figures" as the reason. I could tell right away that you were being sarcastic and voted accordingly, but the sarcasm was evidently not as obvious to some people.
Just a suggestion, because I hate to see posts get alerted on unnecessarily.
