This isn't exactly a surprising stance these guys are expressing. Firefighters can be brave. They can also be racist assholes.

There's a reason there are so few black and brown folks in the FDNY.

They are trying to change the culture, but so not shocked that there are guys who behave like this among the ranks.


As for whether they can be fired or not? The Union is strong, as it should be. These guys are acting like shit-stirrers. Is it a fireable offense?

The same goes for the NYPD, Chicago Fire and PD, and a whole host of other cities. They all have all sorts of "swag" for sale. Maybe not directly, but they have no problem with it being sold.
