...I'm staggered. I can't believe that anyone in the US in the 21st century is capable of "reasoning" like this. It's as if Cotton Mather was Chief Justice of the Republic of Fredonia. This man has some serious issues wrong with him...

(153,164 posts)they're making decisions for evangelicals, not America
But I do think some are worse than others. Alito, Thomas, and Amy Coney "if you don't want the baby, just drop it off at the firehouse, no biggie" Barrett are the worst of the worst, imnsho.
when it comes right down to it, they all suck - BIG TIME

(16,412 posts)Sam, Clarence, and Amy are the ones I personally most love to hate. Sam for that asinine fail of an opinion draft, Amy for her "drop 'em off at the firehouse" remarks, and Clarence for just generally being a hateful, misogynistic, old sack of shit!

Instead of her feet being bound, it was her mind that they bound up. And created one that resonates with the hateful agenda of the Federalists Society. That whiney voice also sends me over the top.
How any woman who produced a child could EVER EVER EVER dream of forcing it on someone who does not want to produce the child is such an outrage. I think it is this that makes me hate her the most. Because she degrades us all.

(8,253 posts)I thought that if Roberts was actually trying to sway one of the 5 from the Alito opinion, the one that would most likely be swayed would be Kavanaugh... which sounds crazy when I think about it but I think if there is a possibility of any other justice being swayed to not overturn Roe, it's Kavanaugh and no one should put any hope in Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh is the least batshit crazy out of all of them.

(16,412 posts)His past is a cesspool, of course, but my hate is based on how he's behaved on SCOTUS. And as you said, he's definitely been less batshit than the ones I listed.

(1,000 posts)The other Conservatives think they are doing God's work. I have a special dislike for Gorsuch, he is the stolen seat, he does not belong there, he is just not as obnoxiously noxious as the Dean of the SC Douchebags-Thomas, as vacuous as Barret, or as pseudo-intellectual elitist at Scalito.
He is pretty basic, they paid his Country Club bill and his credit card debt, he delivered the vote he committed perjury to give.

(115,719 posts)it's the attitude of sheer contempt he obviously holds for the very notion that women have a right to privacy that protects their reproductive decisions. Since that right isn't listed in so many words in the Constitution, written at a time when women had no rights at all, he had to rely on decisions of a 17th-century British judge who executed witches and held that husbands had the right to rape their wives. How much more contempt is even possible?

(6,254 posts)we are not a damned christian nation!
What galls me is that these religions - these MYTHOLOGIES - are being used to "govern". Where is REASON? Where is SCIENCE? We left the Dark Ages a while ago yet MYTHOLOGY rules our lives.

(6,254 posts)pilgrims which most RWNJs forget about. The pilgrims came to America in search of religious freedom. At the time, England required its citizens to belong to the Church of England. I love to throw the fact that the first English settlers were pilgrims who sought religious freedom. America is not and never has been a Christian nation. It just so happens that over the past 30 years the Evangelicals right has had the loudest voice.

(2,844 posts)They are truly deluded in themselves. They believe their religious convictions are based on some historical reality. They believe that they are where they are to shape all of America and all of our citizens into their image. The powerful man and the compliant dutiful woman. They are not only legislating from the bench but, they are playing God. They are determined to impose their vision (for lack of a better term) for America. Some dystopian mix of a patriarchal, fascistic, hyper-christian hellscape where they have ultimate and continuing power and everyone else has to comply and conform or else. We must not and cannot let that happen.
The curtain has been removed and what's been revealed is ugly and quite dangerous. I, for one, cannot and will never live the rest of my one and only life on this tiny planet under such conditions. Should it come to bear I will fight them tooth and nail to prevent them from implementing their inhuman house of horrors upon our society.
Sometimes we are complacent. Sometimes we're apathetic. Sometimes we can't remember two news cycles ago. But, this time I think they may have bit off a bit more than they can chew. In their self-righteousness and arrogance they just may have ignited a furious resolve that all the dark money in this world won't be able to defeat. They not only need to be shut down but, they need to be humiliated into oblivion once and for all.

(1,322 posts)Ive read a number of the seemingly crazy right wing decisions of the court, and its hard to comprehend the mental contortions that the best and the brightest have to go through to come up with what appear to a lay person to be ridiculous arguments. Parsing the meaning of a comma seriously? I suspect that the founding fathers assumed that future jurists would exercise some common sense in their rulings, and would recognize that things evolve over time. Sadly, the current court is determined not to do so.
