A deadly fire at an aerospace research institute in Tver, northwest of Moscow. Another blaze at a munitions factory in Perm, more than 1,100 kilometers (680 miles) to the east. And fires in two separate oil depots in Bryansk, near Belarus.
Coincidences, or a sign that Ukrainians or their supporters are mounting a campaign of sabotage inside Russia to punish Moscow for invading their country?
Since the blaze at the Central Research Institute of the Aerospace Defense Forces in Tver on April 21, which killed at least 17 people, social media has leapt on every report of a fire somewhere in Russia -- especially at a sensitive location -- as a sign that the country is under covert attack.
No one is claiming responsibility, but analysts say at least some of the incidents, particularly those in Bryansk, point to a possible effort by Kyiv to bring the war to their invaders.

(35,675 posts)Today Show. Putin looked sad and weary.
The soldiers were all marching lockstep. It was "nazi-esque." The commentator said that Putin remarked to the crowd that some had come straight from the battlefield.
They interviewed cheery Russians who think they're going to win because it "cannot be otherwise."
They put on a big display of military hardware, including something that reinforces they have nukes. I didn't quite catch all that but what was shown on the screen was a big missile.
On the whole, I was surprised by two things:
1) how absolutely worn out and weary Putin looked. He could barely stand to be at the unknown soldier wreath, saluting and then rapidly turning around and getting out of there.
2) how affluent some of the Russians looked when they were interviewed. They were wearing nice clothing. The streets and everywhere you could see was clean and spiffy.

The plot involves a Russian scientist trying to tell the west that the Russian nuclear weapons program is riddled with corruption and incompetence, a "knight dying inside its armor." Because of how the then Soviet Union was run, no one had the courage to tell the powers that be there of how bad things were.
Looks like LeCarre was spot on, as usual.
