Can we get a like function? I believe in Democracy.

I've been here, lurking since Bush 2, I agree with almost everything I read here but I don't post or reply much. I would like and interact with the site more if I could just like, thumbs up or down the posts/comments I agree with.

I feel it is the time for the many to stand up!

Any other lurkers want to vote?

I believe in Democracy!

I've also decided, because all my neighbors and family are Republicans i should make friends with people who vote the way I do.

and it turned into an endless Meta pissing contest between different factions ganging up to down vote posts from people they didn't like or on topics they didn't want getting too much attention.

From memory it was removed because it was more trouble than it was worth.

Especially going into primary and elections seasons, I suspect the more we can do to reduce factionalism, cliqueishness and popularity contests the better.

That's good enough. Someone might ask you, why? DU tries to promote discussion, vs just thumbs up or down. FB is for that sort of thing.

So what if people vote up or down on a comment. Don't get the FB putdown either. Lots of sites have like functions and lots don't. There's nothing wrong with your suggestion. You should post more.

Trolls are dispatched quickly here and how well FB is regulated or not has nothing to do with what is allowed here. What you think is worthless someone else might find worthwhile. Perhaps you're afraid you would get lots of thumbs down?

If there's no comment, there's no real interest or communication. Communication is the point of DU. Not ego, which you seemed fixed on, which would be another reason to not go with a up or down. Ego needs to be left at the door here, in my opinion. Your opinion obviously differs.

Have you served on MIRT? If so, you know how swarmed we can be and how many go under the radar. I think we're done here, obviously. I stand by my belief DU is for discussion. There is a way to rec or unrec with words instead of a FB up or down. G'night, I have to work in the morning.

Blind spot there. No one ever said DU isn't for discussion, or that it should be focused on ego. Strawmen that certainly isn't "discussion" that you seem to claim as your property alone. You say that your opinion on how to do things leaves ego at the door. Really? Your whole post is your ego with no discussion whatsoever; just personal attacks.

I think the jury system + rec button provide a positive and constructive experience. Replies could also get a like. A thumbs down would not be a good addition IMO and could add some nastiness.

peoples feeling go hurt when they posted stupid shit.

then they did away with the vote down, which make the vote up pretty meaningless.

then the vote up vanished.

and here we are.
