3. Not in terms of outcome. The targeted areas are heavily minority and democratic leaning

There might be some republicans there affected . But the whole purpose of the laws is to hurt democrats.

8. The lineups come from regulations, not laws

Yes, I know, regulations are mandated by laws. But it is not explicitly written into the law that minority areas should have fewer polling stations per capita and fewer drop boxes and fewer offices, etc.

Those restrictions are the ones that hit minority areas the most and are set by election officials in positions which are increasingly being crammed with RW authoritarians who are not honest.

4. Yes, of course, to the extent they can.

For example, removing ballot boxes has effect from where they are removed, so if done only in certain areas, effects are only felt there.

6. Yes, a lot of them do. And, by gawd, I think Democrats are a lot smarter

and capable than some folks seem to believe.

Like Stacey Abrams said when Georgia enacted seemingly damaging legislation, “Education is key” (paraphrased).

Most of the laws are surmountable with education and help from local Democratic organizations.

At this point, the laws aren’t likely to change before November. GOTV is the only answer.

7. Whenever Republican play around with elections you can bet your bottom dollar
Mon May 9, 2022, 12:11 AM
May 2022

That they've already spent millions analyzing its impact and determined that the net effect is better for republicans than democrats.

For instance, they hate vote by mail. It's certainly true that Republican voters would rather just pop an envelope in that mail than get out and drive to a polling place.

And it's even true that some republicans can't easily get to the polling place, and without vote by mail, they just won't vote at all.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that republican strategists have analyzed this and determined that eliminating vote by mail will keep many more democrats away from the polls than it will republicans.

And that's the entirety of why they oppose vote by mail. Because they win more elections when it's not available. The "fraud" crap is completely made up nonsense because they can't say the real reason out loud.

Same goes for *everything* they say about election law.

9. I've been voting by mail since 2004

It’s so easy. I still down at my leisure, study the ballot and fill it out. It’s postage paid too. I wish all states could be like California. It’s so unfair and fucked up what the Republicans have done and gotten away with.

how vote by mail would result in massive voter fraud they just stammer because they have no idea how it would. Of course there’s this:

“Dozens of mail ballots are going to a GOP ward leader’s South Philly P.O. box, raising ‘ballot harvesting’ concerns”

Always projection with them isn’t it?

13. You're ignoring the distinction between MANY and MOST
Mon May 9, 2022, 07:39 AM
May 2022

Yes, MANY people have problems voting on Election Day or delays standing in line to vote, but MOST people don't. The Republican argument to them is essentially, "YOU figured out how to make your vote count", so those other people (if they're eligible) should be able to as well.
