https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/08/nyregion/inmate-death-rikers.htmlA 25-year-old homeless man is believed to have committed suicide at the Rikers Island jail complex in New York City on Saturday evening, according to people familiar with the case.
The man, Dashawn Carter, was found hanging from a window in his cell at the Anna M. Kross Center just two days after being transferred back to Rikers from a state psychiatric hospital, according to a person with knowledge of the circumstances surrounding his death.
Mr. Carter is the fourth person to die in custody there this year, during a time when correction officials face increasing pressure to show that they can keep inmates safe in the notorious jail complex in the East River.
Louis A. Molina, the recently appointed commissioner of New York Citys Department of Correction, has less than two weeks to present a plan to address the crisis at Rikers or risk a federal takeover of the jail.

(13,905 posts)3. This was about 5 years ago when she was in her 20's. Who knows what horrors she saw and
dealt with. It's frustrating that she was imprisoned for that year with bullshit charges. It's good she got out and it left deep scars in an already damaged mind..

Horrific for inmates and staff.
