Remember when we said---"Trump will never win the GOP primaries!"

"Trump could never win the Presidency; people aren't THAT stupid!"

"This will do it! This is the end of Trump!" ( X ??? times)

"The GOP will never get rid of Roe v. Wade. They're not THAT stupid!"

"Fascism can never happen here!"?

And, NOW we're saying---

"Trump won't be the Republican candidate in '24."

"Book burning in the US? Don't be ridiculous!"

"These concerns about the SCOTUS ruling against same-sex marriages and contraception are just alarmist nonsense."

"American democracy is too strong to be replaced by an autocracy."

""No need to get all excited---someone will fix this. They always do."

And, STILL: "FASCISM COULD NEVER HAPPEN HERE!"

"It Happened Here".

Used to be available on Netflix, can't find it there, but someone uploaded it to YouTube.

Alternate history where the UK fell to Germany, but the resistance, aided by the USA, came into force in the mid 1940s as the USSR was pushing back the Nazis. Seen from the viewpoint of a nurse who was apolitical and just wanted to do her job.

Very little moves us to break the suction between our asses and our comfortable seats. So, we think someone else will rise up by the millions and demand an end to fascist insanity. Someone else will boycott, stand in, occupy, sit in, general strike, walkout by the millions rather by the thousands or hundreds.

To mix metaphors because I’m still free to do so: like the frogs in the pot, our gooses are truly cooked.

When they were casting themselves as the party of family values, the great fiscal conservatives who based their beliefs on the intentions of the founding fathers - I knew it was bullshit then, and saw where they were headed.

I said the POS came down the escalator he was no joke, that he represented what the R party was becoming, was a REAL threat to win the nomination, and if he did the country was stupid enough to make him POTUS.

And, I have pushed back every time people wanted to think he would quit or GOP would get rid of him.

This shit was where we have been headed going back to Reagan - it was slow at first, but with 9-11, then the electino of BHO, it has escalated exponentially.

Complaining is useless. Complaining without a commitment to taking corrective action is worse than useless- it sets a bad example and discourages others.

I voted in 2016, 2018, and 2020. If my only plan is to vote again in 2022, I am doing nothing different and should not expect a different result.

Were accused of trying to suppress Democratic votes by being negative even as we said every Dem vote will be needed.

We were promised only the rosiest polls were accurate; other polls were "flawed" or "the media wants it to look like a horse race".

The day before the 2016 election:

OP- Groper Don the Con is not leading shit
Some replies:
-I pretty much tune out the polls, but...
...if the polls have a 5% margin of error, that generally means that folks here on DU are going to totally freak out over 1 out of every 20 polls.

-It's all such B.S., probably for t.v. ratings.

-Any rise in TrumpleThinSkin's political fortune at this point. . .
is nothing more than a "dead cat bounce"
from the Wall Street expression that "even a dead cat will bounce if it falls from a great height".

-The media has a vested interest in making sure it's down to the wire. (or at least appears to.)
I take a deep breath, head over to fivethirtyeight, and relax.

The same thing has happened in every election since and is already showing up for the coming election.

That's just the way the flow of history works. Action/reaction. When we have a solid 40% of our population that is ignorant and racist, it doesn't take as much convincing to grab another few percent in states that have outrageously high electoral power in the Senate and the electoral college
