The Abortion Firestorm is also a White Freak-out About the Browning of America

The Abortion Firestorm is also a White Freak-out About the Browning of America
America is no longer all-white or all-under-white-control and white supremacists on the Court are bound and determined to do something about it

Thom Hartmann

The abortion battle is not just about religion.

We’re also watching the last ages of white supremacy, and it’s scaring the hell out of white people who’ve bought into the racist belief that “others” are fundamentally different and inferior.

This firestorm around abortion is another dimension of the white freak-out about the browning of America that stretches from the days of slavery through 19th century “scientific racism” to Charles Murray’s book The Bell Curve: America is no longer all-white or all-under-white-control.

....(snip)....

Let’s be clear here: Alito and Barrett are talking about white babies.

There is an actual “shortage” of them, dating back to Roe v Wade being put into law, causing white people who want to parent but can’t or don’t want to go through a pregnancy to turn to adoptions from Russia and Eastern European nations. ..............(more)

Younger people are more educated about birth control. Also, the stigma around single parenting and teenage pregnancy is gone. The parents of the middle/upper class young women who get pregnant are more apt to help them raise the kid.

Also, in a post Roe world these group will still get abortions, if that is what they want. They will either travel out of state or will leave the country. Or will find someone willing to help them.

Besides, a lack of babies put up for adoption is not a legal argument.

But I do believe that the primary reason for this incessant anti-choice push is hyper religiosity. The GOP and the X-tian extremists have a modern history of connectedness. The extremists have developed a core belief that it is their godly duty to eradicate abortion because abortion overrules their screwed up god's will.

However, the intersection of religious extremism, misogyny, and racism is an interesting analytical focal point. 1) Do god's work, 2) control women, 3) get more white babies into the adoption ranks - or at the very least keep them alive to voting age.

Chilling.

Dem types featured on fox, et al - cannot be trusted with their 'white' votes to represent white, non-rich,, interests.

Women who have a partner and steady employment, plus a supportive family, and reliable childcare ARE able to raise their children even though they aren't formally married. I know women who are doing this - by their own choice. One woman I know is under 30 and raising 2 children with her partner, who is also the kids' father.

OK I'm not passing judgment, I'm just saying that not all babies are unwanted, not all young unmarried mothers are helpless. However there are significant number of young women who are dealing with unplanned, unwanted pregnancies. There are women who have no steady partner, have no reliable job, perhaps unfinished education, perhaps a victim of rape or unprotected sex. There are many reasons for problem pregnancies. Some women just aren't healthy enough, mature enough, or financially ready to take on the burdens of parenthood. For these women, it may be the right choice to terminate the pregnancy. Their doctor or Planned Parenthood can help them with that decision.

I just don't want to hear about the white families who only want to adopt a white infant. I don't want to hear it because it's irrelevant to the argument. No woman should be forced to give birth due to the absence of choice for a safe abortion. If a white family really wants to adopt, they can take a Black, Asian, or mixed race child. I'm fine with that.

Because far more minority women will be having babies. Rich white women have the means to afford contraception and to travel for abortions if they have to, but poor women of color are going to be much more affected.

I don't see this as a way to "produce" white infants for adoption because there will be far more infants of color than white infants.
