common ground with a cannibal. Technically, we both eat red meat, but do you really want to accept an invitation for dinner?

(115,719 posts)are poor, unemployed blue-collar people living in shabby towns with shuttered factories or on remote farms. Many are well-off professionals who don't care what happens to anybody else as long as they don't have to pay taxes. We believe this myth because ever since TFG was elected the media have loved to go out to places like Bumfuck, Idaho and interview the folks at the local greasy spoon - but they never talk to the wealthy bankers and lawyers and trust fund babies who happily overlook all the terror and cruelty inflicted by their party as long as they get to keep their sweet, sweet money. How are we supposed to find common ground with them?

(95,247 posts)It seems a sort of revenant Calvinism, to imagine that ignorance and stupidity equate to lower incomes, as we are of the view, unstated of course, that the elect may be known by their depth of knowledge and intelligence. This is no more correct than the ludicrous view that the elect may be known by the favor the deity bestows on them in this life, as a prefiguration of the bliss they will know in the next.
And though it is not a comfortable thought, a good many intelligent people are dirt stupid, and proud of it into the bargain....

(5,546 posts)That is not what I'm talking about. The ones that do need help can be reached. I live in a town full of them. Most are willing to listen. We just have to talk to them at every opportunity. Convince them that the Republicans don't care about them, only keeping power. If they feel that we aren't talking down to them, most agree with us.
