I spent a number of years watching what the Russian Navy was doing. If you look at a google maps view of Admiral Kuznetsov in Murmansk you can see that they're only painting the sides and superstructure...what can be seen from street level. From a top down view you can see that the flight deck is rusting away, just like the rest of their fleet. Every time the ship left port it had to be accompanied by tugboats in case the carrier's engines were to fail, as they did repeatedly. Bottom line is that the Russians will put a coat of paint over rust for May Day photo ops.
