Dear Nancy Pelosi: It's time for a House Committee on Malign Foreign Influence
The evidence keeps accumulating.
Often it appears as a side quest, in some other investigation or inquiry.
But it just keeps happening.
Sometimes it's overt: Not all that well-disguised direct campaign funding.
Sometimes it's more shady: Funding for 'fact finding trips' and forms of influence brought to bear that slide past monetary regulations.
But the evidence is there, in quantity, and increasingly, with corroboration and secondary sources that affirm its quality.
Congress - especially the House of Representatives, but also the Senate - is rotten with corruption from foreign sources attempting to influence everything about the way laws are made, regulations are enforced, policy is created, elections are managed, and every other aspect of the Legislative Branch's work.
Sometimes it's an honest mistake.
Sometimes it may even be well-intentioned.
But all too often, influence is brought to bear with the intent of advancing an agenda that has not one thing to do with the well-being of the United States government and American citizens.
And like cancer, this corruption is eating away the heart of our Democracy.
It's time, and past time.
Start planning. Consult the experts and get the legal opinions. Establish goals for the Committee's work: to identify, expose, and rectify corruption originating from foreign sources and creating unhealthy influences on the work of the Legislative Branch.
Then convene the Committee.
