What's to stop activists from ordering large numbers of these abortion drugs in advance?

It seems to me like trying to stop these abortion drugs is an exercise in futility- nobody in Austria or India is worried about the laws in Texas. I expect that even in states which pass these laws against abortion drugs, there will be an informal network among women and people will know who to go to in order to buy these drugs on the black market. You can even buy the drugs before you even get pregnant so the three-week delivery time from the pharmacy in India is not a problem.

Not to say overruling Roe isn't a disaster- it is- but these drugs should limit the damage.

1. Shelf-life. But otherwise this is a good idea.

I think the trick will be the information network on how to access them once they aren't legal anymore.

Use-by date. Which raises another question; will desperate women risk using out of date drugs? Of course they will.

4. I read somewhere that most "out of date" drugs are perfectly safe. Apparently, a 50 year old

stockpile was tested and, for the most part, the drugs were at or near their potency when new. I'd always suspected those dates were just another ploy by big pharma to turn a buck.

7. Are you willing to accept the liability for medical quality based on "I read somewhere"?

Its one thing to buy them for yourself. Entirely different to open a free pharmacy.

take out of her body. If I were in that position, I'd take my chances on an expired pill.

had a friend who worked for abbott labs. swore there are only a handful of drugs that lose efficacy, and virtually none that become anything toxic.
walgreens and other put a 1 yr exp date on all meds, no matter what. it's about turning over the benjamins. period.

i'm seeing 2 yrs, min.

But otherwise, most drugs don’t turn toxic.

Definitely TOSS OUT expired tetracycline. People have died from it.

Stocking up on things about to be banned is pretty standard. I liked the suggestion that all pro choice folks should have some of these pills even if they have no need for them. Keep around for those in desperate need.

Somebody with more knowledge about them can chime in, but IIRC they don't last very long.

6. Some medications

Are actually unsafe to take after the expiration date. There is one antibiotic in particular, I just don’t remember the name of it.

Another point is that the expiration date on medications is usually a conservative date. Meaning that there can be upwards of a 6 month buffer on the continued efficacy of the drug beyond the printed expiration date. But, when it comes to antibiotics of any kind, heart medicine, blood pressure meds, and certainly oral contraceptives, I wouldn’t count on efficacy beyond the printed date. Just too risky since these are all very serious meds with serious consequences if they fail.

I would imagine each drug has a shelf life unique to it’s formulation, so you can’t predict how much of a supply to get of things like Birth Control, which you are hoping will last until we can reverse the downward spiral of abortion rights.

the best thing to do is fight like hell to stop the horrendous onslaught of abortion restrictions.

There won't exactly be a black market for them... it'll be more like getting a PowerBall ticket in a State without the game. A short drive or a friend will grab one for you.

this would be simply another shaky thing to rely on rather than solid legislation.
This needs to be handled and done right this time so this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
Most Americans support abortion access, so passing law to support abortion access should not be an issue.
