General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am liking Twitter a lot.
I joined about a year ago.
Wasn't that active, yet more so of late.
I feel I have freedom of choice there. Choice is important to all women now. The Supreme Court is trying to take that away from us. I will do anything I can to not let that happen. It is about our future, our children's future. We can't let them take that away from us. I will be 70 this year and it is close to time to pass the mantle. They need to wake up and listen, they need to understand that voting matters. They need to think clearly what that vote means for their future, not a throw away vote , just because.
Vote. Your future depends on it and we will no longer be here to dig you out of the hole.
Vote.

(50,393 posts)I hate the 'dumbing down' of the limited-character platform (seems to be what Carl Sagan foretold in his 'Demon-Haunted World').
But at the same time, these days it's all about sound bytes and reaching out to the average means, which requires such messaging.
While not a 'twitterer' myself, if the platform can be used for progressive change, then I'm for it.
But if it's taken over by Musk and ends up being conservatively biased, then I can't imagine how it could be beneficial if the likes of tRump and his ilk can post complete bullshit without any checks and balances, and overwhelm the sane with insanity...

(40,212 posts)Now I find myself liking stuff and a few times posting a reply. Sometimes Twitter can be a real sewer, but sometimes it can be insightful. There are some good people on Twitter. Dan Rather tweets a lot, a lot of democratic law makers like Eric Swalwell, some other interesting people like Stephen King, who btw is in a constant state of outrage.

I love it. Breaking news straight from the newsmakers, without "opinion journalists" in between. Conversations between important folk.

(83,785 posts)Takes some getting use to. I am still learning the ins and outs.
As for Stephen King, always adored him and read all his books. As for his outrage? Good for him. We all should be in a constant state of outrage vs GOP.

(15,325 posts)Every one of my fav people from President & VP, Congress & policy makers post what they're doing in their committees & legislature & globally.
Something we never hear of on our MSM.
I can connect with musicians, foodies, artists & writers. Its not all political opinions.
Then there's global matters. Like Ukraine. The news of their situation would not be as known worldwide if not for their daily twitter updates.

(1,000 posts)if Musk bails I will go back. There are ways around the short message restraint, and some seriously interesting people got their point across. But FB, like FOX, was/is a cancer on this nation. They make us dumber and coarser.
If I wanted something that smells as bad as Musk I'd have stayed with FB.

(83,785 posts)It really is a whole new world.
I've been on it for a while, but not very active.
You can follow the media folks of your choice and get breaking news. Plus, there are some really funny people there.
A lot of pick and choose, though.

Love both places and in a time of COVID, that is all we had. I have made internet friends in both places.

(31,828 posts)I can freely pop off - without worrying about offending someone. People tend to have really thick skins on Twitter.
