Wow, they're moving like lightning to shield SCOTUS members from protesters

Manu Raju @mkraju
Senators aim to quickly pass bill to expand security for families of Supreme Court justices, per ⁦@alizaslav https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/09/politics/supreme-court-justices-security-senate-vote/index.html

Dean Barker @deanbarker
Where was this energy for expanding security for election workers and school board members and their families after all the abhorrent rhetoric directed at them by the outrage industry, including [checks notes...] members of Congress?

but yeah, interesting, no one really cared about that, but if women dare to speak up about a very real assault on our bodily autonomy...

I can't believe even Democrats are all in on saying women shouldn't have the right to speak up about this because it might upset Alito or Kavanaugh and hurt their delicate feelings.

This should be responded to in the same manner as a declaration of war, because it is.

The gloves are off and failure is not an option.

Because I am female and not pearly white, I have been held back in every overt and subtle way from reaching my true potential in every endeavor of my life. I am not alone, as every woman and person of color can attest. I'm sick of it.

and past my reproductive years, but this is an attack on every woman, yet, the women with the least power will suffer more, specifically, those who aren't white.

The right keeps putting forth "personhood" legislation for fertilized eggs, zygotes, embryos and fetuses...but they seek to deny that designation to already born women and girls.

I never knew a world without Roe. I was sexually abused by my father and had a stash of money (saved from babysitting, it probably won't have been enough) for a "just in case" fund.

It is not acceptable for women to have less rights than a corpse.

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/03/diplomats-told-not-to-make-eye-contact-with-tillerson.html

Rex Tillerson has never attempted to stab a childhood friend or fumbled his call for the elimination of the agency he now leads, yet he’s emerged as a strong contender for the title of weirdest Trump Cabinet member. The secretary of State goes to great lengths to avoid the press and sometimes uses the alias Wayne Tracker, but the Washington Post reports that his relationship with his co-workers may be even weirder:

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson takes a private elevator to his palatial office on the seventh floor of the State Department building, where sightings of him are rare on the floors below. On many days, he blocks out several hours on his schedule as “reading time,” when he is cloistered in his office poring over the memos he prefers ahead of in-person meetings.

Most of his interactions are with an insular circle of political aides who are new to the State Department. Many career diplomats say they still have not met him, and some have been instructed not to speak to him directly — or even make eye contact.

The claim that Tillerson has adopted J.Lo’s alleged method for handling underlings lit up Twitter on Thursday night, though AP diplomatic reporter Matt Lee cast doubts on its veracity.

This gives members of the families of Supreme Court justices the same protection that has been given to the families of members of Congress since 1946. Specifically, it authorizes the Supreme Court police to protect members of Supreme Court Justice's families where the Marshal of the Supreme Court determines such protection is necessary.

That's the impetus of this legislation. None of their families were at more risk from protests than conservatives on the Court are placing on American families nationwide.

'Your 3 kids will be fatally shot' among threats Schmidt faced after 2020 election

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt shared some of the terrifying threats he received in the wake of the 2020 election, at a U.S. Senate hearing Tuesday in Washington. Schmidt testified at a hearing on emerging threats to election administration.

“For doing my job, counting votes, I’d like to quickly share with you some of the messages sent to me and my family," he said. "'Tell the truth or your three kids will be fatally shot.' It included their names, it included our address, it included a picture of our home.”

Schmidt is the only Republican on the City Commission, and losing presidential candidate Donald Trump singled him out by name in his false attacks on the election’s integrity, which was reflected in some of the threats.

“‘Heads on spikes, treasonous Schmidts.’ ‘you betrayed your country.’ ‘you lied.’ ‘You’re a traitor.’ ‘Perhaps cops and bullets will soon arrive at’...provides my address, names my children...‘RINO’s steal elections; we steal lives,’” Schmidt said, quoting those threats.
