The Michigan governor warned that ‘anti-choice, anti-women extremists’ are pressing for a federal ban on abortion

(Detroit Metro Times) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called on Americans to “take unprecedented steps to protect” abortion rights in an op-ed published in The New York Times.

Saying a federal abortion ban is possible if “anti-choice, anti-women extremists” get their way, Whitmer urged “my fellow pro-choice governors, state legislators, private sector leaders and citizens to use every available tool to protect access to safe, legal abortions.”

Whitmer filed a preemptive lawsuit last month that argues abortion is protected under the state constitution’s due process and equal protection clauses. It’s a critical argument that could determine whether women have a right to abortion access in Michigan if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision in 1973 that established the right for people to terminate their pregnancy. ............(more)

The only "if" remaining is whether or not the radical right thugs (and by the way, its past time to call them this in the same NON-STOP STACCATO cadence that the GOP uses for the 'radical left') are going to go after everything passed since 1865.

Let's stop kiding ourselves, please. This is all STILL firmly rooted in the Civil War and pretending its not related is burying our heads in the sand. We're not going to have Civil War II, its just going to be a reigniting of the Civil War, period.

The rights of women to control their own bodies is different only in kind from the theory that white men can OWN black people (or brown people or poor white people) by a matter of degree. If the State has a role to play in monitoring the sex lives of all women to ensure that ALL fertilized eggs are either carried to term or the woman punished for the temerity of having sex, then who can legitimately hold that they won't push for everything else too?

Same sex marriage? Gone.
Right to contraception? Gone.
Right to inter-racial marriage? Gone.
Right to hold credit cards (without male approval)? Gone.
Right to NOT be held in bondage? The ultimate endgame...

Greedy corporations have flooded to the South / Confederate States of America for decades - chasing "right to work", anti-union and pro-business states willing to allow worker exploitation for campaign ads touting "new jobs" (never mind that those jobs in autos or Amazon warehouses have effectively crushed collective bargaining and union representation for fair distribution of a business' profits).

The Geriatric Old-men Party has stopped bothering to hide their faces behind sheets and is now straight up announcing the trajectory they plan to take the country under their fraudulent SCOTUS and gerry-mandered Congress. They are not content to have small victories either...they are greedy bastards down to the sinew and they want EVERYTHING and are going to get it unless we stop pretending this is not happening because it makes us feel icky.

The time is coming when the broken government will need to be fixed or replaced and sides chosen. I know which side I will be on, and if it comes to a total dissolution of the union, I know my life's mission will be to totally dismantle the nuclear arsenal of the existing USA to prevent the Confederacy from EVER possessing a single one. You think North Korea or Iran are bad actors? JFC! Just look at our own religious cult party and tell me the difference...
