The DOJ will punish the foot soldiers and leave the instigators to plot and plan for their next coup.

To my knowledge, no charges have been brought against any of the Republican vermin breaking into voting machines and illegally sharing voter information with partisans trying to prove nonexistent fraud. Not even a slap on the wrist. Anyone who thinks the Republican Party leaders in Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin are not planning their own coups for 2022 and 2024 is being naive. And why wouldn’t they? There seem to be no consequences for committing perjury and sending illegal slates of electoral to Congress either.

Expect the trend to continue until Trump is returned to office, then Biden should be led off in chains for stealing the previous election.

A lot of people are pinning their hopes on the Committee hearings, but IMO if they don't call repub members of Congress who were involved in the insurrection, what's the point? Most of America will see the Proud Boys & Qanon as the main culprits, not republicans. Won't matter if PB/Q say repubs put them up to it if we don't grill the repubs & make them squirm on national TV.

We just don't have any fight in us. I think the younger gen dems do, but the old guard are having a hard time wrapping their heads around the fact that their colleagues they've worked with for decades are fascist enablers or outright fascists. We didn't fight in 2000 or 2004. We looked forward in 2006 & again in 2008. I haven't seen any real fight in the dems since President Johnson. The right-wing extremists would never have gotten this far with a true opposition party. We're too much "go along to get along."

From David Corn's newsletter:

As Steve Benen noted recently, last month, while referring to congressional Republicans and their efforts to subvert Obamacare, Biden called them “good folks.” Some Democrats were peeved by that. Rightfully so. From the D perspective, these folks are hardly good. They have supported an insurrectionist-inciting leader, blocked climate change action, undermined voting rights, rigged vote-counting systems, launched a divisive and absurd CRT panic, politicized a pandemic (which led to a massive number of preventable deaths), backed party comrades who hang out with neo-Nazis and QAnoners, targeted LGBTQ people, stepped up their efforts to limit women’s autonomy, and accused Democrats of being soft on pedophiles. Not “good” at all. Unless this is all made clear, Biden can start now hiring all the extra lawyers the White House will need when the Republicans take control and mount scores of revenge-seeking congressional investigations.

Soon, someone will be along to chastise me for bashing dems, but if we never look at what we did wrong in the past, how can we correct it for the future?

on the obstruction counts because Bill Barr and the leadership of the DOJ under Trump essentially cleared him of the charges. It sucks but it's why the DOJ will not move on it.

Red means substantial evidence exists
Orange means criteria “might” be met
Blue means insufficient evidence

https://www.lawfareblog.com/obstruction-justice-mueller-report-heat-map

As you can see, only 5 out 14 potential crimes meet the criteria required for conviction.

Firing Comey wasn’t one of them.

DOJ policy is not to indict unless legal criteria for conviction have been clearly met.

At some point Dems become accomplices. In 5-10 yrs from now if we look back and the extreme people of the GOP have gotten committee chairs like MTG, Gosar, Jordan etc and civil right as well as social programs are gone like gay marriage, social security, Medicare and many other civil rights. The people who could have done something but didn’t will be judged just as harshly.

It is really, really frustrating watching the Dems do this high wire act of not wanting to appear “partisan” and not enforce the laws as they are currently charged to do. Knowing that the GOP would impeach and take President Biden away in handcuffs if they could right now.
