Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he would reverse Twitter’s ban of Donald Trump, calling the permanent suspension of the former president’s account following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol a “morally bad decision” and “foolish in the extreme.”

“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald trump I think that was a mistake,” the soon-to-be owner of the influential social media platform said at a Future of the Car event hosted by the Financial Times. “It alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

7. There needs to be a way to combine freedom of speech with fact checking

Many Democrats are strong advocates of freedom of speech-- it'a a traditional liberal value. Bush Sr. helped himself win the Presidency by accusing Dukakis of being a "card carrying member of the ACLU". Unfortunately freedom of speech can lead to all kinds of problems as was seen in the 1920s in Germany and Italy. Mechanisms to fact-check and warn of manipulation should be in effect, especially in these times of such slick marketing technology.
