Coming this Saturday.. Letter Carriers food drive at your mailbox

We have enough to fill our large mailbox on Saturday. I hope most DUers can contribute too. NON-perishables are what is needed.

1. I've tried to do this three years running

and my bag has never been picked up. I don't know why that is, but I'm not going to bother this year if my local PO isn't participating - which seems to be the case.

I don't bother collecting and putting anything out anymore because they just leave it, they're not interested in collecting it.

5. Keep the cans - send checks instead.

Our food banks prefer cash so they can cut deals with grocery suppliers. I suspect the postal workers who have to deal with the cans will thank you.

7. Some locals are not able to pick up and transport food this year for a variety of reasons so it's

best to just donate food or, preferably, cash directly to your local food bank.

9. I donate money to my local foodbank monthly.

I figure they can use the funds directly sent better than cans and boxes of food that have been out in the sun or rain for hours.
