What is going on with education in this country?

Starting in July, it will be time for a new controversial law to go into effect, designed to take the political temperature of every public college and university in Florida.

Signed by DeSantis this week, House Bill 233 requires students and faculty to fill out a survey to declare their political beliefs, and assess what the governor calls, "viewpoint diversity" on public college campuses.

I would lie through my teeth on it if I had to take that survey. Give them enough bad data to show it is stupid political stunt (you know Republiklan modus operandi)

Our university is in a state that has talked about forcing professors to be open about their political affiliation and risk termination if they talk about anything political or social in their classes. It is getting hard enough to get people to teach anymore, the pay is awful, even at the collegiate level, and the nonsense is getting deeper all the time. Fewer students are choosing higher ed, how will this play in their decision. I would not want to sit in a class full of MAGATS and state my politics, violence is bound to occur.

They really don't want anyone educated anymore, it is not in their interest to have a highly educated electorate.

part of the federal domain, no?

I don’t think he can get away with this.

He is much more dangerous than TFG.

Somehow I think DeSantis is linked to the scandal that has embroiled Gratz- I hope he goes down in flames!

It's a real thing.

Everyone should declare that.
Our town is 1/3 Democratic, 1/3 Republican, 1/3 Unafiliated - shows up on lists from Primaries.

that we have an education problem. What else could it be? I blame a lot of it on Religion but that cannot be the entire story - it has to be that our population no longer takes the time to investigate anything - they simply join a tribe and adopt the narrative.

I worry for America and most importantly young people. A really sad state of affairs.

They are treating their states like petri dishes for the most right wing laws imaginable. And they both need to be shut down in November.

Can’t draw attention to yourself if you pretend you are not interested in politics and refuse to offer a concrete position on anything.

Always worth checking to see if what's said is what people are saying is what's said. 'Nuff said.

It's almost twice as long as the bill originally filed, but is more much procedural.
