WHY we need DU, and WHAT we can do with it to help save America!

I wrote this in another thread Wanted more of our DU brothers and sisters to see it.

A place like this is a terrific resource! A clearinghouse for information.

And for information-sharing.

We should be building a library of resources. Names. Groups. Experts in strategy and tactics. Reference material. Info on relevant organizations, where they are, and how to contact them. Friendliest in Congress and state governments and their staffers. A guide to counties: where the friendliest are in enemy territory and what the prospects are for friendly takeovers. Where the operatives are. Any underlings that can be groomed to further greatness.

The bad guys have been smart and shrewd. They’ve spent years - DECADES - putting stuff like this together, and establishing bulwarks in every state. We haven’t invested either time OR funding to ANY of this!!! All our leaders have been doing is working from race to race, clomping along with only myopic, temporary goals. NOTHING long-term. Maybe because our side has spent DECADES thinking “oh, it’ll be okay.”
“Nothing’s gonna happen.”
“Coast is clear.”
“They can’t do anything about it.”
“They’re not gonna do anything about it.”
“We’ve got this.”
“No muss no fuss. It’s already handled”
And on and on, or as a deejay friend of mine used to call it: “yawn and yawn.”

Our side has NEVER learned OR realized that it’s not enough to win the territory.
That territory has to be DEFENDED. AFTER you’ve won it. Night and day! Day and night! Around the clock! Forever! However long the enemy remains at the door, on the prowl, always ready to attack.

And boy oh boy did the bad guys work like fiends to build that infrastructure that includes at the very least Pox Noise, and all the many-headed serpents around it.

Are WE EVER gonna wise up about this ( she wailed, while banging her head against the wall in utter frustration)?????????

Feedback and comment GREATLY appreciated.

my state party began to rejuvenate about 4 years ago. There are email lists, independent groups feeding into those lists, there is one news outlet, though I bet the circulation is 1200 people. Local candidates run on an idea. But don't get far because there are no consultants to teach ideology to the campaign and the candidates. They just babble issues, they don't counter punch with followup questions or good sound bites. Not that the media would report them.

If you're going to push this kind of organizing, it needs to be done out of public view in my opinion. This is not the place to share talents, skills, experience, intent, or tactics.

I'm part of my local Indivisible group. And we're ACTIVE! OUT THERE! On street corners holding up signs for candidates, knocking on doors and presenting informational leaflets, and promoting the deadline to vote (Tuesday May 17th for us in Oregon). Sending hundreds of postcards to voters in our state AND elsewhere re: upcoming voting, and more.

I'm also a member of our Indivisible group's Research & Writing team that puts together our "Call to Action" email every week - with five weekday asks plus background info, suggested talking points, and reference links, AND events - both those hosted by Indivisible and other local gatherings.

We also sent notes around to local media letting them know when we do stuff, like the 35 people who showed up outside our DINO Congressman's office. Kurt Schrader. Never met a Republican he couldn't accommodate.

I personally put so much time and effort into our Call to Action email (i guess you could call me Head Writer: ushering it along all weekend from the writing meeting through formatting tweaks, sending it to the editor, then getting it back from the editor and make any corrections she found, thus getting ready for sharing and shipping - out online and to other Indivisible members and groups who like our stuff and have asked to use it, themselves) that when Monday comes along, I'm more than ready to take the day off!

If only there were a Dem equivalent of the Faux Noise group. I'd like to think that we are a resource for the liberal message and I hope our info and posts are being archived for the future. There's so much out there I don't think DU or any other format can have it all.

We need to share and save bookmarks of everything that could possibly be of use in the future. I use the Advanced Search a lot and it has been very helpful in finding what we do have on file.

A good place to start curating information (as in not opinions), imo, is from General Discussion and state sub-forums.

How this exists in the Underground is the question.

Should DU have libraries -- say,
Constitutional Law Library,
Primary and General Election Library,
Battleground States Library,
Issues Library,
Timeline Library,
History Library,
Media Bias Library
-- as sub-forums with information links?
What each might list is a whole other brainstorm, right?

I ask about a library framework, because when I go to OnTheIssues.com, they only have records of votes up to 2020, which, being outdated, is lame as hell.

Or we could call it the DU Clearinghouse with information sections, one being about all things Democratic.

I'm just suggesting, of course, because this is a huge country to try to influence, but what's an Underground for if not a place where we can spread our links; history about how the blue wave won in 2018; arguments, logic. Even if it's among ourselves at first, our quick reference framework can sharpen us and help us have some ripple effect as digital and real world participants.

I'm aiming at getting to work with Democrats here in Florida, and I'd love to use some clearinghouse framework here, and also have more FL Democrats join DU.

Doing something is always better than doing nothing. So good on you!

Democracy won't save itself.

Good question.

Maybe contact the state-by-state sub-forum leaders to get their best data? Maybe get volunteers to cull through post mortem posts (in archive here) on how the 2018 wave won? Maybe then present these as a link for the primary season? After which, if that link polls well, as the mods to throw it up as a clearinghouse forum? I know a lot of DU like to use it as a latest breaking news aggregate, which is fine and good; but everyone should really have an data space of dependable source links as permanent reference, imo.

Know who'd know how to do this? BumRushDaShow. She's a library unto herself.

This is a great place to go for ideas and information and then get it out there wherever and whenever you can.

I live in a Democratic stronghold, where our party has the luxury of bickering and fussing with each other. But even here, where almost 70% of the electorate in the county votes Democrat, the urgency is lacking.

This works. Started from scratch and achieved I4,000 hits in a year. It is dedicated to promoting Democratic ideals and candidates and I've become a shameless promoter because we need to do whatever works.

This could become an excellent resource site for even more than being a clearinghouse for news and sharing the news.

And we do need to fight night and day, day and night. Not wise to be optimistic about just rocking along sure that "They wouldn't do THAT!"

Hillary was right about a vast right wing conspiracy. Before the Koch Bros. and the Mercers it included Adolph Coors and Richard Mellon Scaife. They set up a network that includes funded academic seats and scholarships, funded research, think tanks, white papers, speakers and pundits for the media to interview, right wing radio and television. Murdoch and Ailes launched a PR campaign to peel the TV audience away from CBS, NBC, and ABC, and switch them over to the new FOX News, with the "You Can't Trust the Biased Liberal Media" strategy. Quite the winning strategy, really, since now their audience believes anything coming from a media source not in their ecosystem is a lie, and cling ever-more tightly to their identity as ditto-heads and Fox News' Nation. They are lost in their echo chamber.

Not that I give up on them. I believe we (and by we I mean liberal for profit organizations and nonprofits) need to use the counter-propaganda techniques the military would use and do it systematically and intensively – like the RW has done for years.
