The main hearing on the dismissal of this bankruptcy takes place on May 27 but there is a status hearing tomorrow on some stunts that the Jones attorneys are pulling. This is a sham bankruptcy where three of Jones's companies (the debtors) have filed bankruptcy under a fairy new provision of the bankruptcy code to try to force a settlement in the Texas and Connecticut cases. The Texas plaintiffs had dismissed the one debtor who was a defendant in their lawsuits prior to being served with bankruptcy and the Connecticut plaintiffs have dismissed the debtors from their lawsuit and both sets of plaintiffs have moved to remand their cases back to state court for trials on damages. The courts in each of these state court cases have rendered default judgements against Jones and his companies for discovery abuse and for being assholes. The only issue to be determined is damages and Jones' attorney are objecting.
Juanita Jean's son, Mark Bankston, is the lead trial attorney in this case. Tomorrow there will be just the bankruptcy types. https://juanitajean.com/reminder-6/

Fair warning, bankruptcy court is about as exciting as golf on teevee in Chinese, so the odds of something youll understand happening are pretty damn slim. However, with the type of lawyers that Jones hires, you never know.

(145,486 posts)The debtors are in effect three companies with few assets, no employees or operations that were put into subchapter 5 of chapter 11 to try to force settlements in the litigation. There are motions to dismiss this sham bankruptcy that will be heard on May 27.
Both the Texas and Connecticut courts issued default judgment against Jones for not providing required disclosures and financial statements. Jones will not file bankruptcy because he would have to disclose too much

(145,486 posts)One of my old law firms is now in this case representing the Texas plaintiffs. The jones attorneys agreed to let the Sandy Hook Plaintiffs release and dismiss the case against the three debtors. These three defendants are basically shell companies with no operations or employees. This means that the state court lawsuits can go forward. Jones spent a ton of money and is getting nothing out of this sham bankruptcy. The Sandy Hook cases are headed back to state court.
I doubt that Jones will not be filing personal bankruptcy because he would have to file extensive disclosures
Again, Jones wasted a ton of money for basically a delay
