Speculation about Valery Gerasimov comes after he was absent from Moscow Victory Day parade

Chief of the Russian general staff, Valery Gerasimov, has been suspended amid the Kremlin’s faltering invasion, a senior Ukrainian official has claimed.

Oleksiy Arestovych, a military adviser to Ukraine's president, said “preliminary information” suggested Gen Gerasimov had been removed from his post while Vladimir Putin and his inner circle assessed whether he should be allowed to continue to lead the country’s armed forces.

There has been no official confirmation of the reported sacking, although speculation about a purge of senior military commanders increased after Gen Gerasimov was absent from Russia’s annual Victory Day parade on Monday.

Russian armed forces have suffered several major setbacks in their war, failing to take Kyiv early on and enduring heavy losses – both in lives and equipment.

3. Their most recent loss is just crazy!

They built a pontoon bridge across a river, the Ukrainian forces waited until a good percentage of their equipment was on the bridge and then blew it up. If that wasn’t enough they came back less than 24 hrs later, built another bridge in the exact same spot and well, their equipment and soldiers were once again blown to smithereens!

They lost approx a battalion’s worth of tanks and armored vehicles and many soldiers

7. I thought Gerasimov was wounded a couple of weeks ago.

He had just taken over and was in Iyzum (sp?) and got bombed along with a bunch of other officers and men. I would think that's why he wasn't at the parade. It doesn't make much sense to sack someone who hasn't even had time to do anything before getting blown up, unless he actually died or was severely injured and they are keeping it quiet, using his "sacking" as an excuse for him not being around.

8. I've read differing reports about Gerasimov

The United States claimed Gerasimov prior to Ukraine's shelling of the headquarters located in Izyum left the headquarters Ukraine shelled. Ukraine claimed that was present and survived with some shrapnel wounds to his thigh.
