I can't imagine how the victims of this latest hate massacre can appear on air and express what they feel with any kind of coherence or control. I would be a writhing mass of quivering rage and anger. I force myself to listen to all of their stories although it is so painful that I am left feeling hopeless and helpless.
To put it is perspective, I thought about losing my own mother last fall during peak pandemic. I was only able to visit her once in the last year of her life. The experience was so traumatic that I have not shared it with anyone except close family. I could not even begin to post something on DU, for example, let alone appear on television.
I did want to say that my relationship with my mother was complicated, but we always loved each other. I have been thinking about her younger self when she would actually say that she loved black people and felt kinship with them because of her southern poor roots. She also took college courses and learned about Reconstruction after the Civil War and how that had basically ruined the chances for a good life for black people. I mention this because she later became a FOX news viewer with all that that entails. The rightwing media has a lot to answer for when it comes to good people like my mother and especially, ESPECIALLY, when it comes to this replacement theory GARBAGE.

(100,104 posts)10 people dead isn't a false flag you fucking morons! It's 10 people - DEAD! This isn't a damn video game. It's not Call Of Duty. If you get shot in real life, you don't get a second chance. You don't get power ups and invulnerability.
It's seriously like we're living the plot of "Don't Look Up", only instead of an asteroid - it's guns. Hey gun nuts, guess what? Your guns kill people! And they are doing so right now in record numbers! Yet your only solution to a violence problem is more violence. Your solution to a gun problem is more guns! Your solution to encountering a mass shooter is to go Superman on them! Instead of preventing a mass shooter from coming into a classroom, you've done everything but that - you give kids bulletproof backpacks, turn classrooms into fortresses, and place your fucking wannabe GI Joes on the rooftops of nearby buildings to act out your sniper fantasies.
It's truly fucking insane what is happening to this country.

(17,138 posts)but wrapping my head around the fact that anyone could believe that is difficult. I often wonder if they really believe it or just want to believe it . Doesn't really matter I guess.

(23,337 posts)Yes...replacement theory is indeed garbage and the MSM is in the process of normalizing it. I fear before long, it will be an accepted excuse for mass murder of any group other than angry white straight men.

(17,138 posts)I do admire the victims for being able to do so, and I know that their ability to do so comes from strength. I just feel so enraged by the necessity of them doing it. I could never do it.

(21,611 posts)I heard a local interview with a leader in the Buffalo Black community. He said that, after the pain and anger, they will forgive because if they don't, then they will become like the shooter, hate filled and angry. So, for their own sakes, to avoid letting the shooter win and turn them into clones of himself, they will stay strong and caring.
That comes from several generations of enslavement, segregation, lynchings, and dozens of verbal microcuts daily. To survive with your sanity intact, you learn how to be both strong and flexible.

(29,279 posts)They know how to turn the psychological screws and design it down to a science. This is the front on which we need to better gear up, and fast. My dad started falling for rushs twisted lies bit by bit, too, late in his life. Its hard to have convos when the truth has become so obscured.
Deepest condolences, senseandsensibility

(17,138 posts)You summarized some of why my relationship with my mother was so complicated, but lately I have been thinking about her as a young woman. That was the real her.
