I am desperately trying to get a job with Amazon in the northern virginia area doing basically anything Id even do janitorial work just to get in the door. I have computer experience and keep applying for the data center jobs but nothing has panned out so far.
Im trying to find someone who already works there that might be able to put in a good word for me.
Anyway have a great week all!

Delarage
(2,186 posts)They worked in the giant warehouses that have been popping up like weeds all over Delaware; mammoth facilities with (seemingly) no windows that I can see. Anyway---they both quit b/c they said it was mind-numbing and soul-sucking (basically their words). But I think they pay decently---they never talked about how much they made, just how brain-dead they ended up feeling. One went to be a teacher aide in a school and the other is still not working anywhere (22 year old who lives with his dad so he has the luxury of not working).

You can put your zip code in and find hiring opportunities in the area.
I also recommend any local temp or job placement agency. They oftentimes will have a sheet of what is available that they update regularly.
As far as "put a good word in" goes, that's not really how Amazon operates at that level. It's pretty much entirely through hiring agencies or applications online. There oftentimes isn't even an "interview" process as much as a "Go fill out forms, take a drug test, and we'll check things out and let you know."
Source: I worked HR for Amazon very briefly. It was, uh, yeah.
It's basically a human labor mill. Pays well for what it is, no question. But the turnover exists for a reason.
