I am hearing Trump voters say something I have not heard before.

In a way, they are admitting they are a cult. A cult not following a cause, an idea, a cult following one man, Trump. They are saying things like this, I voted for Trump, but I am not a Trumper. I still love Trump, but I am not a Trumper.

In general, I don't think Trump voters every cared, agreed, with everything Trump said or did. Of course they liked some of his ideas, but what they were really following was what Trump symbolized. They see things in Trump that do not exist, it's a con. Many Trump voters don't follow politics, some never voted until their hero showed up.

From the beginning they saw Trump as someone who hated politicians, politics, like they did. He would clean up Washington. They believe Trump is honest because of the way he attacks other politicians. Because of this they believe Trump is fighting for them, protecting them, so he can do no wrong. Trump voters want Trump as president , period. They don't really care what he does while he is there. This was hero worshipping from the start. It's kind of like the OJ trial. Millions of people loved OJ, he was a hero to them. They could never believe OJ killed his wife. They could never believe OJ was an evil man. No matter how much evidence you showed them.

There are hardcore Trump voters who are die hard MAGA followers, they wear the hats, go to the rallies, most Trump voters are not.

When Trump fades from view, so will MAGA, so will the cult of Trump. Many Trump voters will return to what they did before. Back to hating politics, politicians, many will not vote again until another savior appears. They could be waiting a long time because Trump is a one of a kind freak accident that cannot be repeated. Many will try to repeat what Trump did, they will act like Trump, say the same things Trump says, they will fail. They will fail because they are not Trump.

... states flipped from red to blue from 2016 to 2020 because of him, and exit polls had HRC
winning easily. (Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Florida) Racism explains
his devoted followers and very soon he will be a pariah to 75% of Americans. The last 25% are
bottom feeding brain dead racists and the country should move on w/out them.

BTW Joe Biden is the best President and has put together the best group of people to work with him
and for the American people in my lifetime. Tump is just grifting dumb ass clown who is a Russian
asset.**

* If it wasn't for the Russians and their use of the electoral college he would not have been in the White House.

Your points, Botany, are dead on accurate, and the the Slate article you referred to is a good explanation too. Trump has been in hock to Russia since the mid-80’s and they’ve utilized that by creating him as an asset. Russia, through their troll farms played a major role in influencing the vote, especially by utilizing and exploiting the inherent flaw in the electoral college entity. Their trolls put out misinformation, rumours, and suggestions of sexual misconduct by candidates they don’t like. They do this worldwide against their perceived foes through various social mediums in order to strike a chord of outrage in the recipients of their propaganda. It doesn’t matter if the lies are debunked or refuted; at that point a large percentage will continue to believe it, mostly because it suits their agenda( or they are incapable of rational thinking). Hopefully, the demise of Putin, and the repercussions of his orchestrated actions, will eventually diminish, as long as there won’t be too many adherents of his devious policies that will carry them on when he’s gone.

It honestly doesn't matter who is on the ticket...ALL that matters is the R behind their name. Republican have been programmed to vote for ANYONE with the Scarlet R. They have been programmed that Democrats are evil.
That is it in a nutshell.

but you and Doc speak for the idiots up here, too. We'll never get out of the mess Brownback left us. And now we have Marshall and the rest of the R's. If only we had enough money to move to a Blue state, we'd be gone in a New York minute.

citizenship in Ireland by one generation, drat. Even THEY gave women equal rights this year, finally. I've always wanted to visit the land of my maternal ancestors (sigh). But, like you, I haven't the means... and now, I'm too old for anyone to take me. I wish I'd known then what I know now. I had the chance to move to out of country when I was in my 20's, but it was to a middle eastern country, and that didn't sound good at all at the time. However, now I think I could have used it as a stepping stone on to someplace I would like to have been. Would have been a DoD type situation. Dragging a 4-year-old would have been hard, but do-able. Man... you just never know what the future holds, do you? I sit here now, 67 years old, wishing I could escape the hellscape I see coming down the pike and figuring the only way out is death (shrug).

And I only ever wanted to see the world unite in peace... just for once in my life. Mankind, intertwined with Nature, respectful of each other. Just once. Guess it just wasn't meant to be for this old hippie.

in my circle who voted for Trump did so because of the "R." "R" to them stands for "not a socialist." They don't really know what a socialist is, but it has something to do with government telling them how to live their lives.

The bottom line is that he hates the same people that they do. That's why they vote for him. They've always been there. He just gave them a "legitimate" reason to slither out from under their rocks and announce to the world what they believe. TFG didn't surprise me. What surprised me is the number of people, including many in my circle of friends and family, who supported him.

"when Trump fades from view, so will MAGA. The MAGA ideology was already there before Trump, he simply allowed that ideology to come out of the shadows. 30% of Americans are racist, misogynist, bigoted, fearful people. Religion played a big part in the rise of Trump. His followers believe he was sent by god to restore our country, to reclaim it from the evil, devil worshipping Democrats.

When Trump dies his followers will still follow the next Trump.

Out of the 70 some million who voted for TFG in 2020, only about 30k bothered to go to Washington on the 6th of January and out of that, only about 800 attacked the Capitol.

Trump suckered a lot of white blue collar workers who have been non-political all their lives. For years I heard people say, all politicians are the same, they are all crooked. I know, some of my friends fell for the belief Trump is not a politician. He will go after the politicians, clean up Washington. It's all about Trump, hero worshipping. They think he is something, he is not.

I would hazard to guess that if Pence were somehow to win the R nomination in 2024, the vast majority of those who voted for TFG before would vote for Pence in the general regardless of who the D candidate was.
