By way of background, I grew up in Uvalde County but have lived in San Antonio for many years.
San Antonio is considered blue while Uvalde county is red. Many of the right leaning residents there constantly berate the left and the horrors that Democrats impose.
Yesterdays shootings were horrific and the small, rural hospital in Uvalde no doubt did all they could, but ultimately all of the patients needing trauma care have been transferred to San Antonio. I am SO proud of the response of San Antonio and the medical teams at University Hospital and BAMC. The people of San Antonio were asked to donate blood and last night, there was a two hour wait to sign in to give blood. There are now appointments booked through Saturday. Seven hundred people, I believe.
So, the blue city has opened its door and hearts to the red city. Thats the way it should be and I support this.
But do the idiots like the mayor of Uvalde, Don McLaughlin, ever stop to think that their asses would be in a whole lot worse shape if they couldnt depend on the blue city helping them out? I rather doubt that they do.

(66,467 posts)It's such a shame that red-state (city, county, etc) America can't see that without Blue America, they'd have absolutely no support mechanism for their feckless beliefs and lifestyles. Without us, they would have to either learn how to cooperate, co-exist, and get along, or face going extinct.
I'm not saying that last option is a deal-breaker...

(1,324 posts)The mayor sounded like a particularly obnoxious good ol boy. Why would a majority Latino town elect someone like that?
are many Latinos that are republicans

(6,659 posts)Some Hispanic friends of mine actually said they feel like the Dems are too easy on immigrants since they did the work and Went thru the official channels and they dont want to seem biased by voting for more immigration. Doesnt make sense but thats what they said.
Go figure.

(13,570 posts)read that before too. I used to know a gal that came here from Canada as a small child with her parents and at a certain age-eleven or twelve-she had to take a test to become a citizen. I dont know if thats true, but thats what she told me. I would have thought since her parents became citizens that she was automatically a citizen. She resented immigrants that came across the border, because like you said, they didnt do the work.
