Why?
Isn't it sort of crazy to even want to own a gun to shoot a living, innocent being? What is noble about shooting innocent animals? For sport, for trophies? That is psycho! For food? What about all of the places where you can order food from (done a zillion times during Covid). You won't starve without a gun. There are huge chest freezers to store food in. Food is not a reason for owning and shooting a gun. For sport? How about shooting at targets, skeet shooting, how about taking up archery? For a collection? Maybe. Family tradition...more BS. Your family must have better traditions to bond in. There is NO reason to own a gun. For protection in homes? NO! Look at the statistics. That is a failed agreement.
If you own a gun and have violent tenancies go volunteer as a fighter in Ukraine. There is no reason to own a gun.

(50,955 posts)Not kidding. My brother had little interest in guns till he was 50. Now he has to have his gun on him to go to the grocery store.
It's pitiful.

(1,182 posts)The answer is fear.
And the only way to overcome it is to be feared instead.

(51,608 posts)and he said that when he made his film he didn't put the "fear factor" in his film. He went on to say that the increased TV news and media and the TV shows like "Cops" which market fear are responsible for the problem. All those reality TV cop shows were promoting fear and unrealistically showed the violence in the US. Same applies to all the local and national TV news reporting on so much violence which only increased violence...all for profit/rayptings The almighty dollar strike again. Fear sells.

Plus its fun. Sometimes competitive.
Its also good know i can use them for self-defense if needed.

(46,335 posts)I've been on a duck hunt where I bagged a duck, using a single-shot external hammer 16 gauge.
Tried deer hunting with a borrowed rifle.
Saw a deer, took a shot and missed.
Second year I went deer hunting I didn't see any deer.
No, I don't *NEED* to hunt to survive.
BUT...
The deer population in a number of states has exploded, due to lack of predators.
And when deer population get that high, more and more deer become roadkill, damaging cars and injuring and killing the drivers.
It's poachers like Donald Trump Jr who make hunters look bad.

In the service, a couple of us were pretty determined photographers, and we would talk it up with a buddy, E-5, who was a short-timer. He was a pretty avid deer hunter (from Johnstown PA, no less) but our enthusiasm caught on, and he soon got more of a kick from photographing all kinds of critters than killing them.
When all you've got is a camera, the world's yours to capture.
