All the different gun control groups need to come together and create one organization to lobby for common sense regulations. In unity there is strength. A unified effort to campaign to stop the senseless deaths. A unified campaign to solicit money. Create a rating system and assign a firearms common sense regulation score to each politician. Make the fucking NRA Senators an offer they cant refuse. Whatever it takes.

(11,145 posts)leader, MLK, we need one leader that speaks for the movement. Yes, it needs to be a MOVEMENT. A unified movement. The movement needs ONE name. One leader. One agenda.

There is a nationwide march scheduled for June 11.
Text MARCH to 954954 to stay informed.

(4,986 posts)It would be a place where people could find out how their reps and senators are supported by the NRA. For example, it was disclosed today that Mitt Romney has received more money from the NRA than any other elected official....something like 14 million....Would not have expected that about Mitt....

(11,145 posts)Believe. Im telling you if we all come together under a singular movement with a single leader, ala MLK, we can stop this shit.

(8,053 posts)and boots on the ground, there's nothing we couldn't do.
For starters, we need to make some serious changes to our constitution, and forever do away with the electoral college.

Hillary lost the election in 2016 by about 80k votes total in MI, WI and PA. Winning those three would have won her the election.
We won't win Red states but we'd win enough in battleground states to have control of the WH and, by a comfortable margin, control of Congress

(263 posts)Now is the time to get some good mind's on this & start creating this concept ! I'm in ! score each politician ! that alone will piss'm off ! damn that's a good idea !

(2,823 posts)if that iron means ONE spokesperson... NOT one idea; NOT one policy. Too much at stake at this point. Otherwise, I agree with you wholeheartedly. A true leader, one like MLK, could bring disparate groups together under a banner of justice that would encompass several policies, including voting rights, civil rights, etc.
I say this because believe me, EVERY single time, WOMEN'S rights get left behind until "next" time. Until here we are on the precipice of losing it all. We've stood up for everybody else. I'm afraid you're going to find this attitude across the board. There is simply too much at stake right now. Democracy across the board is at the edge of the cliff. As I said, a good leader, a charismatic leader, a strong leader, will be able to unite us under one banner of Justice and encompass/unite us all. That is what we need. And boy, do I agree with you there. Until we have a strong, ramrod straight backboned individual who can withstand what the rightwing can and will throw at him/her, I worry we're leaves blowing in the wind. You're also right in that it can't be a presidential candidate. It needs to be someone not in line for any political office, IMO. It needs to be someone for the people, of the people. I've thought about this for several years, and wished I was a few decades younger. I have the passion to do it locally, regionally. But I also know myself too well. I have TOO much passion. You have to be level headed and be able to not let the bastards get to you. I've got too many hot buttons. I'd be fighting mad way too easily. I wear my heart out on my sleeve. And I have too many who are close to me who could get hurt bad if the repugs would get dirty. And you they would. The person who would take on this type of job would have to know what they'd be getting themselves and those close to them into, and be willing to accept the responsibility. Hubby and I have talked seriously about it prior to this. I'm no shrinking violet. But I'm also not the person to do it. I've got too many ways they could 'out' me as an outsider... and bring out the Mama Bear. And if they'd hurt one of my students or one of my critters. I honestly don't know if there'd be a limit to what I'd do to get back at them. That's not the type of personality one needs in a position like that. But gods, do we need a level headed person to pick up the banner and run with it.

(6,594 posts)I've been screaming about this for so many years I'm hoarse. And freaking frustrated. It's like no one wants to actually really do anything to save lives.
Read about the injuries caused by (lower velocity) handgun wounds, injuries that are usually survivable, & compare them to injuries caused by high-velocity rounds from guns like the AR-15, which are devastating, organs are pulverized, victims can't be saved. Read the words of ER doctors who have treated gunshot victims, Google is your friend, there are plenty out there.
The Second Amendment doesn't say a word about ammunition, which is why I'm convinced we should try to regulate ammunition, make it less deadly. That approach stands a much better chance of surviving court scrutiny & saving thousands of lives... but I've been saying this for years & I still haven't found a politician who cares.
