I would like to get an idea out into the universe. There are a lot of people now who work from home, who can live anywhere. Id like to explore the idea of people who are able to be mobile, to go to the areas with entrenched Republican gun loving representatives and live there. Register to vote. Impact the population of districts that have modest majorities of Republicans, areas that are suffering under Republican representation- even where the split is fairly close. Can we not inspire a generation of people who care about womens health, gun control, the environment, education, appropriate taxation, etc., to pick up and get close to the problem in order to vote and effect change?!?!?!
Many of us cannot pick up and move. But some of us can. If those who can would act on behalf of others in this way, we could tip the balance of power and create change. What say you? #moralmigrations?!?!

(11,316 posts)I don't want rain on what I suspect is a sincere (and to some degree selfless?) impulse.
But - (don't have kids, but if I did) - I would be terrified that a daughter of mine would end up marrying some 'cracker' - and raising a brood of Faux News, ant-vax, tomahawk chop, 'America First'ers
Tell me it doesn't happen when your kids go to school and play sports with about 85% mouth breathers?

(10,202 posts)and there is no way I would ever do it again.
The sexism, bigotry, and religionism were bad enough, but taking into account that the Contract On America was just getting ginned up in those last years in Red Exile. Its exponentially far, far worse now.

Ive lived in Texas. Now I live in a blue state where I trust my government. Life is simply much better here and I cant sacrifice my one and only life to cast my vote every two years in hopes that I would make a difference.
I really, really admire Democrats who manage to stick it out in a red county or state. Ive done it and it sucked and we got the hell out as fast as we could.
