It goes against common sense to go to a protest armed. Not everyone who owns a gun is a swaggering idiot.

I get the outrage but this issue is not going to be resolved by lumping all gun owners into one category.

weapons and how scary that is, and the hypocrisy of representing gun ownership and brandishing, but not allowing weapons at their party.

14. It does not really work that way.

The NRA members are gun owners. Most gun owners do not fear guns (or any other object). The folks who will be afraid of the armed protesters are folks who don't own guns. As long as the protesters don't cross the line into assault with a deadly weapon (or whatever your state calls it), neither the armed nor unarmed gun owners are going to care that the protesters are armed.

No guns rule for NRA conventions is all about the desires of the build owner or his insurance company. It just happens this year that the building owner is allowing guns in the building. Of course, inviting a guest speaker who has Secret Service protection adds a restriction to this.
