2. Not racist fans in general

Poorly constructed characters and plots that demean existing characters in an attempt to build up these new characters. Most Star Wars fans I know lament the poor material and sidelining that was done to John Boyega who's Finn character could easily have been one of the greatest in Star Wars history. A rebel storm trooper with potential force capabilities would have been an outstanding character. Instead they turned him into a joke.

Same can be said for Kelli Marie Tran's Rose Tico. Her and Boyega's character were destroyed in the scene where she knocked Finn off of his suicide run.

Criticism is viewed as racism. Both these actors are quite good, and would have had a successful run with Star Wars with decent writing.

They may be going down the same path again by sidelining Kenobi with a poorly written character. The MCU shows have been doing that a lot as well burning through a lot of established goodwill.

3. So it's only pure coincidence these characters happen to be minorities?

I'm not really buying it.

They don't like Rey either.

5. Well I feel that nearly every character written in the sequel trilogy

were poorly written. I only used Boyega and Tran as examples because they are identifiable minorities and the post was about racism.

Rey might be the worst of them all especially when you consider the importance of her character to the entire story.

6. It's part of this larger "disney is so woke!" war.

I've seen it with Marvel and how upset they are with Brie Larson because whatever she's said in media they don't like and her getting a huge push as Captain Marvel when Captain Marvel has always been an incredibly powerful character.

4. I thought the last two Star Wars (proper) movies were awful because of story telling and writing.

Amazingly, JJ Abrahms made better Star Trek movies than those of Star Wars. He was not a fan of the former, only the latter.

her character stunk. That is true.

What isn't true was that there weren't racist attacks against her. She was harassed and received a lot of hatred, much of it referring to her race.

Both things can be true at once.

11. they dangle a Black character like Finn in front of us, but in the movie, he is a minor character

and they excluded him from the international ads. that kind of stuff is maddening. they talk diversity but are afraid of it.

I watched that star wars movie and was surprised to see how much it was really about the white female character

13. Nope. I remember the grousing about "political correctness" after John Boyega's head popped up...

...in stormtrooper armor in the first teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. Particularly since at that point, the assumption was that he'd be the hero.

Don't let the inadequacies of those films obscure the hot foaming mess some people revealed themselves to be because the two main characters were a black guy and "a girl", and the only white guy was Darth Wannabe.

Star Wars fans were horrible to the actors of characters they hated. And when the Internet hates something, oh yeah, the bigotry goes with it. If you look at the actors who got abuse heaped on them - Tran, Ahmed Best, etc. - people completely loathed the characters (Jar Jar, Rose).

However, that racist and sexist abuse didn't extend to non-white actors who played characters that are liked. Pedro Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Ming-Na Wen, anyone in Rogue One, etc.

For whatever reason, die hard fan bases of any media in existence typically have a contingent of toxic extremes that go nuts when displeased.

If they're putting this warning out there with this actress when Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Rogue One, and other properties have not experienced these problems, I wonder if the studio knows Obi-Wan is not going to go well.

Also, going after actors because you hate the writing or the characters has to be one of the most smooth-brained behaviors on the internet I have ever witnessed. Man, I felt horrible for Kellie Marie Tran. It's not her fault Rian Johnson wrote a terrible script.

"But but, character writing bad!"

Lot of white characters that were just as bad (And in some cases, worse!) whose actors, for some reason, didn't get even a quarter of the vitriol sent their way.

Disney has come to the sad realization that they purchased a franchise that has a fanbase that is racist to the core. "Bad writing!" is little more than a dogwhistle.

We have been seeing an increase in people of color and women cast as antagonists/villains over the last 15 years.

Joe Seo, Kyler from Cobra Kai, talked about being the only minority antagonist in the primary cast, and how hard it took on him after the show debut.
