It is not that the Secret Service did not permit it.
It is that those at the NRA Convention are fearful that some nut will go off the track and shoot the lot of them. They do not trust guns in the hands of their own people. They are afraid of being shot.
It only shows the hypocrisy of a bunch of politicians willing to trade the lives of the American people for a campaign donation and a political issue.
Too bad comatose Republicans are unable to see it.

(102,292 posts)NRA officers/leadership are genuinely terrified of their own--as they SHOULD be. They have empowered every unstable person in this country.
Guns arent banned this year and they werent banned in 2019.

(12,278 posts)the GQP sees it, they are just cowards and the fact as long as it does apply to them they feel secured but fuck everybody else.
Profit greed and no concerns for others. I read that the GQP justices are going to allow more "gun" rights and yet, no gun permitted in their precious building, and yet fuck us in malls, churches, schools and every place not secured.
GQP make sure they are secured tho.

(182,829 posts)Because, you know, they dont want god knows who armed to the teeth possibly drinking in their facility. Insurance, continuing their business, oh and guns bad.
This murderer spent $3,500 in the same store in THREE DAYS. Saw on morning Joe. I get that thats their business but sheesh. Dylan Root should have failed his background check - he actually did - but because it took more than 3 days for the report to get back to the store it was up to the store. Horrible.

(5,843 posts)If you ask me, this is the most obvious example that shows they know exactly that guns are killing machines and they don't give a fuck. As long as they sell more guns, they're happy.

(42,714 posts)The only time that guns arent allowed at the NRA convention is when a Secret Service protected is appearing and the Secret Service requires a ban. At all other times guns may be carried by attendees. This is clearly stated on the NRA website.

(17,181 posts)Why, a whole office building filled with "good guys with guns" would be the safest place on earth, you'd think.
I remember reading somewhere (which means that I don't remember exactly where, so I don't have a source link available, ok?) that whenever Big Wayne (LaPierre) gets his hands on a firearm, everyone around him discreetly looks for cover, since he apparently doesn't know the first thing about gun safety. Which actually makes sense in context, since the NRA is there to sell guns and fear, not to promote sportsmanship and safety anymore. I just liked the image of staffers looking furtively around and wondering if that boardroom chair is bulletproof.

(42,714 posts)From the NRA:
If you were to visit our office, you would most likely come across people open-carrying, both employees and visitors alike. Concealed carry is allowed as well for both visitors and employees.

(5,557 posts)The operating companies and their insurance certainly don't want it and put it into the rental agreement. NRA has to deal with it or go elsewhere (and any other major venue would likely have the same rule). Given that the NRA is mostly about sucking money out of their sheep, I doubt they actually care much.

(54,405 posts)Instructions for your new firearm:
1.) Load with ammunition of the proper caliber.
2.) Aim carefully at the object in which you intend to put a hole at high velocity.
3.) Squeeze the trigger until the firing pin is released and detonates the chambered round(s).
4.) Safety first! The responsible gun owner always takes precautions: in case you should put a hole in someone whom you did not not intend to harm, always have a competent lawyer present.
