The well regulated militia was clearly understood as not being a bunch of independent weapon collectors. The second amendment, absolutely does not mean what the ammosexual idiots claim it means.
Keep in mind that the wild west ended when guns were run out of town. The OK Corral was a fight over this. Up until recently there was little question that guns could be regulated. Even Ronald Regan understood this.

I've always thought that the term 'militia' was an archaic term of the day - for Army.
