We must show our urgency.
In 10 days this event will be another foot note in the history of schoolhouse slaughters.

(86,646 posts)It's to let them go home to face their constituents who are pretty fucking pissed right now. I hope that they have no peace wherever they go.

(5,843 posts)I'm pissed that they're taking a 2-week vacation after two mass murders but they BETTER not be going home to hide. I want them to face the wrath of everyone who is outraged that nothing is being done to stop the carnage.

I would have said Congress is allowing the recess. That's all. It is two opinions not a challenge.

The blame for not getting something done crosses the aisle.

(11,276 posts)What could they have done without a 60 vote majority?

(4,921 posts)It's been 10 years since Sandy Hook. We've done fuck all. That's not acceptable. Certainly the great minds we have should have been able to come up with, I don't know, something more than nothing.
Again, if we couldn't get anything done in 10 years, then we're useless. That gives nobody a reason to vote for Dems.

(11,276 posts)It is all our fault? NO. It gives no one a reason to vote puke. Opposite, IMO.

(4,921 posts)In fact, I said: "The blame for not getting something done crosses the aisle."
It is on ALL of them.
The "pukes" are doing what the base wants. If we are going to convince people to vote Dem, then saying "Well, we couldn't do anything in a FUCKING decade, so, keep voting us" ain't going to cut it.
But this is 100% on Congress as a whole. Both sides. They all suck on this issue. It's been a decade since 20 kids were gunned down at an elementary school and nothing has changed. Oh, well, not nothing--I get to do active shooter drills at my school.

(11,276 posts)Who should we vote for?
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,921 posts)we aren't giving them a reason to continue to do it.
And they just won't vote because they feel both sides suck. This issue solidifies that attitude.

(4,921 posts)Did Dems get rid of the filibuster when they had the Senate? What exactly did they do to stop gun violence?
Shrugging our shoulders and pointing at the Rs ain't going to win votes and remove culpability.

(25,537 posts)Not everything is about money and selling and advertising; Republicans are a post-policy radicalized nutty non-party. Anybody who can't see that is a lost cause.

(24,414 posts)There's no urgency (to me) in rushing to vote for something that's going to die in the Senate. We've been through this several times now. A week or two weeks is not going to really matter much.

(42,714 posts)They need to get in front of the voters. Do you really want our incumbents to leave the field open for their opponents?

(4,298 posts)comeback and pass at least two gun bills Don't know which two but there will be two. By the general, there will be some kind of ban on assault weapons and who can buy them. Those already in possession will have strict law s on using them.

(38 posts)Schumer could have, imo, held a vote which takes only one day, and then they could have all gone home to their districts for the rest of their vacation to face (or not) their consituents.
